I don't have a "bad" mvr but it definitely ain't the best. I got a call from CRST the other day and am just curious as to what they will say. I had a motorcycle accident where someone cut me off and slammed on there brakes and since fl is a no fault state it just so happened to be my fault. So I got charged with following to closely. But here's the kicker I was told by the officer he would not go to court against the ticket. So a while went by and since my foot was broken I didn't even show to my court date. Dumb I know but come to find out when I checked it online to pay it the total of the ticket went down from 270 dollars to zero and if I remember right it said dismissed. This was in March 2011.and last year I got pulled over speeding and the cop gave me a careless driving charge if I remember right. Since I was unemployed I was unable to pay it which then got my liscense suspened. I got them un suspended about 6 months ago but they WERE NOT suspended because of my ticket. Only because I failed to pay. And LASTLY I got a ticket in 2008 for going like 10 miles over or something like that. So with all of my history do yall think that a career of being an otr driver is something I should give up on or what? I have Never Been charged for a dui or reckless driving or anything like that. Thanks in advance. Oh and incase there are any typos or anything I'm typing this on my phone.

With all of those in less than a 10 year span there will more than likely be some companies that will give you a pass. At least to start with...but you'll be able to get work , fairly easily. Get started and try your best to stay with a company a few years to show you are willing to become a stable employee, then you'll be surprised how many doors will be open to you. May take 5 to 10 years, but if you're patient and stay accident free and don't go hopping from place to place you will be fine.

If CRST or Swift will take you, then go for it.
Put your location on your profile for more responses.
If Swift or CRST don't work out, then attend a private or community college CDL school & you will have no problems finding work.

    Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this.

It will be looked at as a case by case basis. Accident pinned on you while on a motorcycle and retarded law. OK, that can be over looked as long as someone within the company has some mental brain power to see it. Careless operation of a motor vehicle.... Ouch! Thats not gonna look so good. Speeding, ehhh, well it wasn't 15+ which is good because 15+ would hurt you but a speeding ticket along with careless operation is gonna be iffy. You might have a chance but just keep in mind even though a company may say yes (which you won't hear. Its more so so far looking good) but the insurer will make the final judgment.

Your ok on something like your license being flagged for renewal because of a lapse in vehicle insurance but they won't won't touch you until you get your insurance caught up and pay the fine to have the flag removed so in your case as long as your license is clear of obstructions/flags then you'll be ok in that department but just keep in mind that a companies insurance will be the deal maker or breaker.

Wait five more years, see if you can go with another incident?

The tickets are not that big of a deal for a new driver. What is going to screw you is the suspension.

Okay amigo, I read your post.

i put myself in the shoes of a fleet owner. "Would I hire this guy? He's asking for a chance at driving. Quite a few blemishes in his record...do I let that turn me away? If the only thing I am looking for is a butt to fill a seat, I will pass on this kid and find a butt that doesn't have any blemishes. But I am not just looking for a warm butt. I want a real driver, a trucker, not another empty-headed steeringwheel holder. 1 trucker is the equivalent of 4 steeringwheel holders...like a bullet, point and fire. You don't have to hold a bullet's hand. So why should I hire you with your MVR when I can get an unblemished steeringwheel holder? Sell yourself, son! Make me hire you!"

When I was a kid, I went to this small trucking company with ZERO experience (heck, I went to the DMV and took the test and they gave me my Class A with TXH permit). Never been to a trucking school. Drive out to this big yard with a bunch of trailers, tough looking guys around and this old weatherbeaten fart sitting behind a desk in a double wide.

"What do you want, boy? Can you drive? Got any experience? Earl go give this boy a road test. Can he drive, Earl? Alright boy, go get into that truck, grab that trailer and go load."

had to run team for a month, then used their truck for my road test.

Makes me laugh when I hear drivers crying about how their dispatcher doesn't understand what they go through or respect them.

Anyways, go roam around and look at the smaller regional fleets in your area (they're still around on the two lanes), where the owner is sitting behind the desk at the front door. Ask that man would he hire a guy with your record. If he says he would, tell him you're coming back with a CDL, ready to truck.

    Luck in battle, friend.

But would it still hurt me if the suspension wasn't related to the charge. Because they only got suspended because I didn't pay the ticket

And thanks for all of the fast reply guys. I was told to look at companies like crst or swift though since they are easier to get into though is this also true?
