    First, a little about myself.

I live near Detroit, MI and a I'm a local truck driver making $1800 (before taxes) a week with around 55 hours worked. The company treats me good and I have no complaints about them whatsoever.

I'm 29 years old and I have a wife and a 17 month old. I'm looking into buying my own tractor some time in the next few months. I have $50,000 saved that will potentially be a down payment towards my own day cab. I'm looking to buy a brand new freightliner.

I just need some straight answers about all expenses in owning your own tractor and if it's worth it. I've searched local opportunities in my area and I've found a job that pays $990 a day with a round trip of 546 miles. 6 days a week. Obviously I know fuel is a huge expense but what other big expenses eat a way at your profit? Would it be worth it for me to make this decision and leave the company I've worked for for 6 years? Given the information I posted would that job be profitable at the end of the week? If you need more information I'll be here!

Thank you in advance for all responses!

If you have no complaints, don't leave.

Owner operator is trading one set of problems for another. It's not automatically more money.

What is your insurance gonna cost? For that little amount and only doing Day Cab I would not think about getting in as Owner Op without having a #### good connection that pays good. 990 a day for 546 miles is worthless in this market. Not a chance in hell I would take that unless maybe lived in FL.

I think I’d probably stay put and keep saving. In the interim learn as much as you possibly can. Focus on saving, your baby, and your wife. Everything is so expensive right now, if you box yourself into local owner op in a daycab, I don’t think you’ll make anymore money then you are now considering what it costs to currently get started.

Thanks for your response! I have no idea what insurance would cost. I just thought about potentially making this decision the last couple of days. Still trying to figure out what to do and if it's any worth the jump!

Thank you for the response! The expense in owning a truck is where I'm truly in the dark.

Can be extremely expensive. I have spent around 25K a year on a used truck for the last 3 years. Insurance is gonna be very high somewhere around 10-30K.

Just reading a little more about owning your own truck, seems like everything has gone up the past couple of years. $25k is a lot of money to insure a used truck. Wow.

    Siinman Thanks this.
