So right now I work at a groucy chain store it’s a union 4 days a week 5th day is overtime if I stay I’ll make 70 grand a year. I stay here cause of my three kids my wife stays home. Or should I go to Estes make 100 grand a year and be home on the weekends and we will be a lot more situated. Just not sure what to do. My current job benifts are great but always struggling. Keep in mind I never slept in a truck before or stay in motels. Been driving 12 years now. Just hard to leave I guess any advice is great! Thanks

Your decision. As I've said many times, we go thru life, make decisions etc. You won't know if it's the right decision until 6 months down the road. Weigh the pros and cons first.

Consider this: if the freight market contracts more....& you are the "new guy" over at <<<insert box-trailer carrier name here>>>... you could easily be one of the first to be furloughed -- TAILS, YOU LOSE!!! :(

Suggestion: wait until after the first of next year -- before making any job moves.

If you are in grocery now -- that's pretty recession-resistant (plus -- your current seniority).

Another suggestion: if you have not received a raise in a while -- ask for one where you are now.

I suggest taking the industry out of the equation. Right now, it's home every night and weekends. Working 4 or 5 day weeks. Are you and the family ready for you to be gone for days/weeks at a time?

Making 30% more money, but being away, will not solve your problems. You will spend what you make, probably a little more then you make. I suspect you already spend a little more then you make now, hence why you are looking to change jobs.

I went from a 10-year Gov job to a private industry job (in IT). Made good money, but traveled about 75% of the time, most years. And we still had money issues. Compromises will be made to compensate for you not being home. Like, let's just grab dinner out since dad's not home... there goes that extra money. And of course, your wife will be like a single parent now. It may seem like she does everything already, but it's easier with two people. For me, I worked from home when I wasn't traveling, but it still took its toll.
    Good Luck either way.

Reason why we r thinking about it is for the money and be something new to try. But like I said I know the benifts won’t be as good and like you said it would probably equal out. Just can’t put kids in daycare that cost a arm and a leg I got a 9 year old and a 7 and a 10 month.

Pick up a 5th and 6th day every chance you can if you need the extra money and stay put. If your insurance is like freight, carhaul or UPS it won’t be replicated anywhere that I know of. A 4 day workweek is hard to beat when you don’t need the extra money.

i’m pretty sure Estes is union also but I’d stay where you’re at. After January 1 till spring time, it gets a little slow. Grocery business always stays alive. You have to eat ,
Especially delivering to the nursing homes and hospitals. That’ll keep you busy
