Only to a certain extent. I know this as I tried getting records for my friends 99 379. If it was all recorded in the computers, then yes. If some work was done and the dealer/shop did not record it, then good luck getting those records.

She does not need the records as she knows the history of the truck and the local Pete Dealer will support it. From the sounds of it this truck was properly maintaned.
But at the end of the day, now is NOT the time to be selling the truck. Hold on to the truck. It is paid for and is not costing you anything. It is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it so an appraisal will do you no good either.
There is no freight to put it on the road right now. Just sit tight with it and stare at it everyday and enjoy the memories while thinking of your father. Hell, get it her once in a while and take her for a spin but DO NOT SELL IT RIGHT NOW!
Unless, you want to sell to someone who would appreciate it. Someone like me who has $1000 for it!

tmlonghorns, yes it was very well maintained. My father was very particular when it came to his truck, and my mother was very particular when it came to any paper work. So I have copies of everything done to the truck. Unfortunately I am forced to sell the truck in order to provide a home for my family, we just found out that we are being evicted. Thank you for your advice and help.

You can tell from the picture that truck has been treated the right way, 12 KW grill bars up front # about $60 each That what I wanted to do to mine. That is a very good looking truck I wish you could figure a way to keep it and get it back to work. Getting it appraised is an excellent idea. It sounds like your dad had a good relationship with the dealer in Joplin and they know the truck, maybe you can put it there on consignment. That way you could set the price. They would make a percentage for selling it, that might be better than selling the truck outright to them. They would want to buy low and sell high but if you set a price and they sold it for you maybe you would make out better. I don't trust the dealers much myself, at least not the ones around here. I don't know the history or mileage but you did say it was overhauled recently, the engine should still be under warranty. That makes it worth more. My guess just from looking at the picture for a 98 truck in excellent condition would be price range in the high 20's. Its a Peterbilt, they have excellent resale value compared to other makes and yours looks like its in pretty good or better shape. 2005 Reitenour trailer is worth about the same as the truck especially if it comes with all the tie downs and other gear. Thats a $40k trailer new, one of my friends bought one. I am no expert though, just my best educated guess. Professional appraisal==good idea to protect yourself.
As far as the statement that was made about no freight being on the road right now, I do not agree with that. Dec and Jan are always slow and were a little worse than usual but since the first of Feb, I have been running my rear end off, and not for free either. I guess you just need to know where to look.
