If you have to ask .. then you better stick with a auto...
    Real men don't ask

Stick with what you are comfortable with. If you like autos, go for it.

The manual in the long run, will be more versatile than the auto. The mpg difference is largely affected by how a driver drives.

It's going to be your truck so it's a good idea to get whatever you want.

    This is the correct answer

The mpg difference is mostly due to the fleet owners being able to set up the computers on the trucks to shift at certain times etc .

I prefer a manual . Even in a car . But especially in a big truck

I’d take a 13 or 18 speed any day over a slush box automatic .

mrs roundhouse is 51 and has always owned a manual trans car all the way back to her first car when she was 17.

    I agree

that’s why they switched all the school buses to automatics.
So they could hire women and anyone with no experience , and teach them to drive it .

but it just a product of our environment.
Most new drivers really struggle with shifting .
My nephew is a trainer at the company he works for , and shifting is the thing that most new drivers really struggle with .

They just can’t float the gears ,
They are constantly trying to cram it in a gear it just doesn’t want to go in .

The thought of going back to manuals is making me cringe. That’s like going back to paper logs and sleeping in cabovers. It’s like using the public phones in truck stop dining tables using a calling card. Some things should never come back.

Roundhouse what company does your nephew work for? The limited driving I've done in a 10 speed (tandem straight truck) I found it easier to float. From what I've been told companies want double clutching which I struggle with at times. I was grandfathered years ago for my CDL and my driving was with 5x2 transmissions with a regular clutch.
