Well I have a dilemma, stay with my current company for another 6 months and try to get in with a better company with 1 year experience or go with Schneider tanker division now with my 6 months experience driving and leave my current employer. I have been on a dedicated dry van account with my current company that offers nights & weekends off (5 day work week) which is a big plus but the pay/miles stinks as far as im concerned..its multiple drop & hook (4-5 day) with about 1500 miles/week total at under .30/mile and pretty much 12-14 hour days with 5-6 hrs of it unpaid line 4 time.. i'm basically getting burned out and not getting paid for it which is working out to be about 25 hrs week of forced slave labor as far as im concerned. Sure in general Regional/OTR you will have some load/unload times maybe of an hour or so but thats after you drove 500 - 1000 miles to get there, where on this dedicated account im spending hours either on live unload or multiple drop & hooks after driving 15 to 100 miles per stop in a freakin 73' sleeper semi in a good portion of metro area stops!! Not only is it robbing me of my time its also extremely dangerous from a safety standpoint. Now on the other hand, Schneider offered about 2300-2500 miles week at .34 to start with a bump to .39/mile after 6 months, it will be OTR but i know at least ill be paid for my time as most will be line 3 with additional detention pay for any load/unload time. its a tough call because the being home nights & weekends is worth some value but not to the tune of 20+ hrs of unpaid "work" time..

can anyone chime in on how things are in the schneider tank division and if its worth the switch?

A better question driver is what is the future like for you at your present employer? Do you have the possibility to advance to better pay, benefits, routes, schedules? How important is your time at home, do you have a family to take care of?

Its one of the big 5 that takes students so I wasnt planning on staying there as a career choice, I did luck out on landing the dedicated after one month of being OTR after my training ended though since it was close to where I live and they needed drivers at the time. There is no room for any advancement on this account and it's not worth going back to OTR with this company since it would pay ~.25/mile haha. I'm single so i have no need to be home except to try and enjoy the scarce fruits of my labor which is slowly becoming harder to do with the long, stressful work week and not much to show for it. Alot has to do with the principle of it, i dont like giving thses people 25+ hrs / week of unpaid work along with them having the attitude i should be happy doing it, i mean they are making money and not paying me whats rightfully due! its crap like this that makes me want to be in a union since when i complain about it they just say leave or go back to OTR.:biggrin_25510:

That I can understand runner. Though being in a union ain't no great shakes right now either. It might be better than what ya got right now, that's for sure. Still, (IMO) give it a year. That will open up SOOO many more doors for you.

Thai's kinda what I was thinking, rough out another 6 months instead of switching and then possibly switching again..not to mention having to change health insurance (unless no-bama care has some effect on it), turn in my truck which i'm used to, etc..

I am suprised with the run you are doing that you are not on salary. That is how most of the big companys do local work. Normally it is 800-1000 a week, even with the big guys.

I was promised a minimum guaranteed "salary" of $750 wk but they havent met it yet and are now saying there was nothing guaranteed and blah blah blah, this is one of the "other" issues i have with this account and why i am ready to leave the bs lies & misrepresentation. So far on a "reallly good" week I'm lucky to have hit $650 gross for 65 hrs which equals $10 hr straight time (they have a little bonus pay perk they give each week for meeting certain requirements - it comes to like an extra $125 on top of the mileage pay that's how i hit $650, without the bonus pay the account would really suck)

If you can tough it out and get a year in with no incidents you could work for almost anyone. All those stops you are making are teaching you a lot more experience wise than just riding and guiding all day.

" Sure in general Regional/OTR you will have some load/unload times maybe of an hour or so but thats after you drove" - hour or so??? havent been to many grocery warehouses yet, have ya? it will baffle you why it takes 3-4 hours to pull 26 pallets off.

does schneider pay line 4 time for unloading that tank? the grass isnt always greener. however they do have tons of dedicated fleets. so if that sucks after a while you may be able to switch.

"with additional detention pay for any load/unload time." - detention usually starts 2 hours after your appointment time.
