Why don't you just do a delete? You know how the truck was maintained. I would think it would cost significantly less to do a delete, and a heck of allot easier.

Sell your truck yourself, then go buy the one you want.

OR.............Find a 1996 or OLDER truck for around $7-8k.....Fixer up like new and drive to ANY state including Cali(for now)......

Forget about the DPF stuff...my best friend of 30 years is a mechanic..And the DPF emissions stuff is Killing EVERYONE!! Parts are on Backorder for weeks..And It is very exdpensive to maintain.

I'll nerver own one.......Buy a REAL truck and forget about the Problems of Emission control

Technically you gotta go back to the 60's. But I suggest a 425 Mechanical Caterpillar, 3406 Caterpillar, N14 Cummins or S60 Detroit.

FYI, 06 was the last engine year w/o dpf crap. Some 07 trucks have 06 engines, but many 07 do have dpf. As far as cali legal, and 07 is aloud if it has an 07 motor.

Egr came out in October 2002. I have a 2003 pete, but I have an '02 Cat C-15 6nz. So it is pre-emmision. 2002 and older most likely non-egr. And 2003 some are egr, some aren't. If you get a Cat, get a 6nz or older. Avoid the Cat "bridge" motor. It is a single turbo, but it does have some emission stuff and will get less mpg than an older Cat.

If the regulation has not changed, in Cali you must be a big, not huge, but bigger company to have to abide by that. There's so many tractors you have to have under one name or something. Or have they gone all out and made every truck get dpf's??

I agree with the guy that said to sell it yourself, but it sounds like the trade in value is equal to what you owe at least. Check out Fitzgerald glider kits buddy! Pre emissions, DD 12.7 liters. The law applies only to ENGINES produced after whatever date, and engines only. Not the whole truck. If you plan on trucking for a long time, IMO a glider is your best bet.

something I have considered, but I want out of this life....

Just don't buy anything without complete mechanical history on paper.

To answer your initial question, no dealer will EVER trade backwards. They are in the business of making money, moving the product, not cutting checks. The sales manager would rather take a loss on a rig that has been on their lot for a year than make a few thousand on one that has been there a few weeks. They will only consider the equity in your current rig as part of the down payment for a more expensive one.
