The 540 doesn't have the mag mount, it's the same style slide as the 530.
I had no problems with the mag mount on the 740, the only time it's come off is when I've knocked it loose. My 740 has been a problem since I bought it with lots of freezing issues, it's been back for repair and is now on it's way back again for replacement.
The 540 I bought as a spare because the 740 was barely usable and it has had no software problems at all. They are both much faster in operation than your 730, and I'd agree the layout is not as finger friendly as the old interface which I too prefer, but it's not that bad and you'll very quickly adapt to it. The 740 is easier in this respect as it has more screen space so bigger icons. To me this new 40 series feels a bit down on the 30 series for quality, but maybe my 740 is an early model that will be replaced by a more up to date version without the problems, and the 540 is working fine
Should I upgrade my Rand McNally TND 730?

Thanks, dunchues, I appreciate your feedback. I didn't know the 540 came with the old style mounts and good luck with that 740. I hope the replacement works for you.
When I bought my 730 in 2014 it came with a 30-day money back guarantee. My 730 kept freezing up at the most inoppurtune times on me when I needed it the most, and I would, of course, have to reboot it to get it back up again. I tried doing scan and repairs on it several time but it never cured my problem. So I returned it before the 30 day money back guarantee was up for a new one. The second one, thank God has worked flawlessly ever since I had it but today it's getting old. So I would like to upgrade for a newer one and relegate my old 730 as a backup unit. However, I'm not going to deal with that screwed up navigation guidance display.
I was hoping Rand McNally would fix that back to the old display since there are so many complaints about it. But no one has any knowledge of that. Which is why I asked that Rand McNally guy on here, but so far he hasn't gotten back to me. -
Co-Pilot is the company that initially explored computer-based routing and navigation way back when. -
