Yes, see...this is why we're asking whether the rules should be changed. Seriously, this isn't hard.

I only caught one reply that address the poll question (it's a bit painful thread to follow), that being only if there is a test to measure current active impairment from THC, just as there is for alcohol intoxication.

I already do use cannabis exactly like I use alcohol.... On duty, off duty. Doesnt matter. I use the exact same amount of both. Im very careful to measure it...

It really isn't an issue as far as I can tell. Drivers that cannot separate business from pleasure usually don't last too long in this industry to begin with. One of the most skilled and experienced drivers I know likes his toke while off duty.

This industry has much bigger problems than some weekend toker.

I was the company DER for several carriers since the mid 90's to 2021.

During that time; 99% of positives were pre-employment and I did have one post accident positive but most of the positives were not for weed.

The majority, including the post accident, were for Cocaine.

Trying to get people near a customer far from the nearest terminal we were able to get remote testing where the chain of custody was overnighted to the candidate and they couldn't stop for the 24 to 48 hours needed to clear their system.

Unless the weed users were able to abstain for the 30+ days needed to test clean which indicates they are not an 'addict'...

Since I started 15 years before DOT mandated testing; I do remember how common weed was and actually recoverd some lost 'road asprins'...a little tin of black beauties.

The industry is definitely cleaner today; possibly helped by the mega's hair testing as much as the 80's mega urine testing possibly helped the DOT get things movin in 1991 with mandated testing.

Only that question was answered in the OP:

This thing went way off the rails right out of the gate. The mere mention of the Devil's Lettuce brought out the Reefer Madness crowd in full force, oblivious to the actual question being asked.

Since when did the desire of truck drivers affect the rules? Did the OP think this thread would help change the rules about using weed?

You already know the answer to that. He has more peer group approval now than he used to..."I started a poll on the biggest trucking site in America and they said..." Except I don't think it quite turned out the way he expected. ;)
