There is only one reason that autonomous planes not exist, simply cause they can't stop on a shoulder if some problems will occur. And there will be no mechanic who can fix most of a problem within hour.
Don't forget that all autonomous trucks have crap load of cameras around them, so trust me it will be not as easy to sue them as you think
Should we be worried about robot trucks taking jobs in the next decade?

The computer drops dead on an autonomous truck it won't pull off anywhere, it'll lock up the brakes. Those cameras arent going to help in a lawsuit defense when your truck runs away with self and kills somebody, and took videos doing. All those cameras, how much is that going to cost to replace one of those in the middle of nowhere because a bird hit it? How easy is it going to be to start hijacking freight when you know you can just start slowing down and keep slowing down in front of a truck and stop it? How easy are these things going to be to hack and send haywire into traffic? The whole thing is a dumb idea, dumber than flying cars even.peterd, Road*Runner and Charlie Best Thank this.

The question isn’t about automation, its coming.
Now we can accept it or not, but if it does come one way around the lawsuits would be to have a minimum wage employee behind the wheel. You think .35 cpm is low wait till you get $8 per hour guy behind it. Either way rates will go lower and lower.
This is predictably the next step, and who better to fill these jobs? Immigrants.Charlie Best Thanks this. -
I agree, I think it's more a question of WHEN and not IF it will come.

People don’t understand or don’t know yet but you can get a driver for $100 a day in SoCal.
Yes if you have a really good team load you can pay someone $100 a day to drive 600 miles.
They can’t park to save their lives but they can hold a steering wheel going straight line. If they don’t drive they don’t get paid.
Interesting isn’t it?Rideandrepair and Charlie Best Thank this. -
Wanna know how much I'm worried about "automated" trucks? This is the 2nd time in a week I've had this "automated" pit shutdown with 40k pounds of soybeans in it. They can't get their computer to run a simple drag and leg, how the hell are they going to run trucks down the road with computers?
Rideandrepair, bzinger and Charlie Best Thank this. -
Man, that's brutalRideandrepair Thanks this.

When the time comes. And it ain't far off. Autonomous trucks will be the least of your worries. Surviving will.
