This question is for a new requirement just as medical certification is mandated today. Each CDL holder must test yearly or automatically lose their CDL.
Should yearly hair follicle testing be mandated as a condition of retaining CDL

The comments after the "yes" and the "no" are both kinda jaded. EVERYONE has the right to assume we are not using drugs. The probably less than 5%(and that may be high) of drivers that use drugs shouldn't make legislation when 95% of us are clean.

Why only yearly? Why not quarterly? Why only quarterly, why not monthly? Maybe if you're already admitting a urinalysis isn't enough you need to consider that nothing will be.

I can’t change the wording. If a mod can do it, please change to the following.
Yes, testing should be required.

I hate to say say this after the TMC thread, but the current problem is hair follicle testing simply is inaccurate with people that have dark hair, like a specific group of people tend to.
Once it's accurate I have no problem with the testing, but it needs to be accurate first. Oh, and standards created for cut off amounts and the lime, but I assume that will be handled when the testing is required.
Remember folks, it is currently a federal law that requires FMCSA to do hair follicle testing, it simply isn't fair and accurate enough to implement.Last edited: Nov 25, 2022
Accidental Trucker, bryan21384 and Sirscrapntruckalot Thank this. -
They should require an electronic urine test hooked up to the engine ECM, where you pee in the receptacle to get the engine to start. Like the DUI alcohol interrupter.
