recently the truck i am driving has had a rash of stupid but annoying failures. its a C15 acert, upper radiator hose rubber connector, lower block coolant hose, and today the precharge hose clamp let go and i had no boost no power. the truck goes in for regular PM work, shouldnt they also be replacing all worn out hoses and clamps before they leave me stranded on the side of the road?

that precharge hose letting go lol..... cant say i have experienced anything quite like it. i heard a loud pop, all the sudden the truck had no power, i was down all the way into 2nd gear on an 18 speed, the pyro temp was all the way up to 1,200 so i pulled over to the side of the road...... i was trying to get to a little safer area, but forget it. this truck wasn't going anywhere i didn't want to burn something up. i was loaded, gross near 100K up hill with no boost....yeah, right your dead in the water.

If you're a company driver, just tell them to fix all the stuff on your list.

That's more pretrip stuff. Or annual safety stuff. Goes along with say if a fuel line breaks. They can't inspect everything at every pm and just gotta chalk it up to things break because you use these machines every day. Where/when else is a boost clamp supposed to fail?

If you lose turbo boost your power will be cut in half or more. If you can get to a place to drop the trailer you can probably limp it a short distance for repair and retrieve the trailer with another unit in order to avoid a towing bill.

You have to write down what needs fixing and then stand there and watch them do it. Good luck with that.

    I have a suggestion

Stop working for cheap companies with crap trucks.

Edit - those things you should catch with you pre-trip.

You've gotta look at it from a shop's perspective. If the owner is paying the shop to change oil, that's all they will do. The shop just can't go ahead and start replacing rad hoses and intake piping without approval. A good shop/service tech will be looking for and noting deficiencies like you listed as they do their servicing. Then its on the owner as to whether or not they get fixed.

That's the way it is in pretty much any company shop. They fix what is broken (or try to). If it's worn or about to break, it's not broken. Move on to the next truck and get it moving.

You can either deal with the way your company does business, or move on to another that has all new equipment. Even then, once the miles go up, they'll still only fix what's broken.

Another option is getting your own truck. Then you can replace what you want, when you want.

i had that hose let go to, but i didn't hear any popping, i just lost power.

i have the "everyman's tool".....duct tape, so i taped it up, went on my way. the shop replaced the black hose with the better blue one.
