I got my CDL with full endorsements (no Pass) from Troops 2 truckers on base (Camp Pendleton Ca) I bought a 3 car wedge for $3500, started pulling with my 1 ton. Got tired of breaking it so for about $8000 I got a 1996 cab over International with a butt load of miles on it, but it pulls alot better and I can sleep in it. On my average run from San Diego to the Bay Area / Sacramento (avg 1500 miles round trip), after fuel and eating like a pauper at Loves I NET between $800 and $1500, all depends on how good of a load I can put together. I do that twice a month (still active duty marine til Dec) and after $820 insurance payment every month I still have enough to pay for maintenance and put some towards bills. Now when I retire I hope to do that same run once a week, or maybe just stay out 4-5 days, in 2, out 4-5 and take the rest of the month off. Long story short, some freight pays better than others, but you gotta be a hustler and go for it!

I need to put my boots on the BS is rising.

I don't work at FedEx but a personally know friends and even have family members that work for FedEx Express and FedEx LTL. Some have been there 25 years and some since before it was FedEx LTL and all of them take whatever over time they can and NONE of them have ever made even cost to $85,500 a year.

They work out of Tampa, Charlotte, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas/Denton, Baltimore, Newark, Warwick/Providence, Boston, and Indianapolis. They normally make about the same as I do +/- a $1,000.00 and they have way better health insurance and they are home everyday, every Sunday, mostly ever Saturday, and are paid more and have more holidays then I do. They are all very happy at their jobs and plan to stay until they retire or until they can't pass the medical exam. They all ##### and mood about minor issues from time to time, but I'm quick to remind them of how the rest of us live, lol.

There are no guarantees regarding pay in trucking but.......I've been with a new company for about a month now and I've netted as little as $950 and as much as $1200 per week. Plenty of work for hard workers who don't damage equipment!

It all depends on the terminal they are at and the length of runs available. I have last Fridays paystub in front of me. Here is a direct rundown:

    2460 miles @ .4861 per mile.............................................................1195.81
    9 drops @ 9.75 ea..............................................................................87.75
    4 fuels @ 4.875 ea.............................................................................19.50
    8 hooks @ 9.75 ea..............................................................................78.00
    3 tractor only switch @ 4.875 ea...........................................................14.63
    9.18 delay hours @ 19.50/hr................................................................179.01
    1.73 education hours @ 19.50/hr............................................................33.74
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TOTAL GROSS PAY.............................................................................1608.44

    Deductions

    Fed witholding......................................................................................85.93
    Fed Med/EE..........................................................................................22.38
    Fed OASDI/EE.......................................................................................95.70
    IL witholding........................................................................................66.29
    401(k).................................................................................................96.51
    FedEx Stock..........................................................................................32.17
    Supl AD&D.............................................................................................1.17
    Dental..................................................................................................5.23
    Dep life.................................................................................................0.28
    DL Spouse.............................................................................................5.02
    Medical.................................................................................................58.62
    Sup Life.................................................................................................8.95
    Vision....................................................................................................1.15
    Hyatt Lgl................................................................................................4.04
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Total Deductions..................................................................................483.44

    NET PAY.............................................................................................1125.00

As far as 6 figures. We have 6 meet and turn runs that are 626 miles round trip. The drivers on these runs are at top scale. Here is a quick estimate:

    626 miles X 5 days = 3130 miles per week

    3130 miles X .62 cpm = 1940.60 per week

    1940.60 X 52 weeks = 100911.20 per year

That figure is before and additional earnings for drops, hooks, and delay.

So before you call BS on something, it would be best to know your facts. Just because you don't know someone who earns over 85k doesn't mean there are not any.

This thread delivers! Thanks guy for all the information. Just getting in the business now and going to put my dues in and get some experience under my belt. Although once the time come and the endorsements fall onto my license ill be taking up tanker/hazmat where either local OTR will be my permanent home.

That's why you're making more than 1k net. You're not getting enough federal taxes removed. That number should be at least doubled. $90 for a $1600 gross paycheck isn't nearly enough. Filing married?
