Do I have to show my ID to the gate guard?? Is he allowed to make a photo copy of my license?? What if the security company (Bubbas Shoot First Inc) looks a little shady?? What options do I have ??

You have to if you want to get in . I load regularly at Arkema in Carrollton , KY . We have to leave a photo ID and cell phone with the guard while we are in the plant . Many plants require you to carry an annual pass from that plant .

When you leave a photo ID, is it your cdl ? If yes, then do you have another form of legal ID on your person ? This may sound petty, but I gotz ta know ! Thanks

In this day and age of ID theft, I'll be ###### if I'll leave my license with someone like that. Hell, we pay for fuel with a Mastercard, if the truckstop wants me to leave the card or ID at the counter to prepay, I only leave the MasterCard. If it comes up missing (see also the thieves at the TZ in Alb., NM) I can call my boss and have the card cancelled immediately. Secondly, I've had the state/federal prisons require that I leave my pocket knife and leatherman with the guard, but never my ID.

That said, if I go into a place where they require me to leave my license with the guard. I'm going to make the guard jump through some hoops as well:

    1. Please show me in writing why you need me to leave my license with you
    2. Please show me where you will be storing my license while in your posesion
3A. If the license is not being stored in a safe/secure location where only one person has access to it. Then I want the full name of the guard, the guard's company (if he is not a direct employee of the shiper/receiver), the companies address, the guards supervisors name/contact info.
3B. If the license is being kept in a safe/secure area (like a safe), I want to see the guard physically place my license in there, and relock the safe. Typically these type of wall safe's will have clips for the license to be hung from, I will notate to myself where the license is clipped.
    4. Sorry, I don't have a cellphone to give you.

I view this the same was as I view these places that want me to give them my keys. I will only give them half my keys, I keep the other half and tell them it has my fuel key/card on it and godforbid it goes missing or the company will terminate me. I have only once had a place argue with me about that. This way if I have to wait in the truck, I can still have the radio on, at least have the vent fan on.

    dieselbear and alex94 Thank this.

And you won't get in the gate at some facilities and will be banned and your carrier may lose the account . But why aren't you asking these questions to someone in authority at your carrier rather than ask them here ?
This is why many customers pay higher rates to get the quality of service bottom feeders can't give . Their drivers understand they are to respect authority and not cause undue delays copping an attitude .

I've never had to leave my ID in anyone's possession and never will. I refuse to right my actual license # on any form however if the insist a # I will write one in it just won't be my license #. I will show my license but will not allow them to copy it or the # and I have never once been denied access to the facility. That license is my livelihood and they don't need it plain and simple.

They should just make a deal with companies for some sort of company ID card. No need to show your license. Thats almost like needing a TWIC card for regular companies...

Yeah, a lot of shippers want to photocopy your license also. I'm real hesitant to comply and would not leave my license with a 3rd party as security to enter a facility. These security companies hire top notch people, right? That's all you need is for one of those fools to give YOUR license to another driver and away he goes without noticing the mistake. Can you say "ruined day"?

So if a noobie is asked for his license, so they can make a copy. and he says NO---he will most likely be back here looking for another job ??
