There are probably places to go when you are waiting for a load, but missing a q-com with a load is probably not a good idea either.
Remember, your employer is paying you to deliver goods, not sight see.

Another common misconception about trucking, you get to see the USA, right? Well, kinda, sorta. First you need to be dispatched to a certain area, then you need to have time to stop, then you need to find a parking space, then you hope to hell no one breaks into your un-attended truck and hope dispatch didn't Q-comm you a load 10 minutes after you left for Opryland for the day, that's if you are there during business hours and the weather is co-operating. I know, I know, you think you'll get to visit with Uncle Fred as you pass through Possum Breath, Al on Saturday, the problem is you'll be going through at 3 am when Freddie boy is sound asleep. :biggrin_25518:

For the most part these other guys are right, however you can make time to do certain things depending on your company. You can buy a book at the flying J called The truckers exit guide ( I think thats the name ) that has a listing of everything off each exit and tells if truck parking and such. I had one a long time ago but haven';t seen it in several years. Once you been driving for a while you just tend to remember whats where or just ask someone. Anyway sightseeing can be done just not as easily as most think it will be starting out.

i hear ya... unfortunately we get loads as a team that a solo can do and spend way too much time waiting to get rid of a load and truck stops get old fast.
