Well installing the Detroit was expensive with all the with all the wiring. My mechanic told me this afternoon he located a 99ixs with 385k on rebuild from a place he trust.
I decided to go that route. Rebuilding mine would not have been cost effective. My mechanic was still mid 20s for a rebuild. That shows you though how high Cummins was though 20k difference.

$15,000 that will have new rod and mains. The place I bought it from drops the pan. Takes the valve cover off and inspects it and gives a 6 mo warranty. My mechanic said since the engine is out he recommends rod and mains. It sounds like a good preventive measure to me. That fit my budget better than the rebuild.

I would have been extremely apprehensive to do an engine swap to Detroit and re-use the 25 year old wiring harnesses from the wrecked '93. I could just imagine the future electrical nightmares.

There's a company out of Colorado that specializes in wiring harnesses for engine swaps. A friend swapped a 12.7 into an 05 pete that had an ISX. Think it took 10 days to get the harness, but it was plug n play. I never asked the price, or who did it, but I would assume there aren't many doing that, especially in Colorado.

You would have a greater time with the engine mounts and all the little things associated. A lot of things that needed to be tweaked, poked, prodded, etc...

I'd trust your mechanic doing a rebuild in 3 to 4 days. My buddy was rebuilding the early ISX in 2.5 days, N14 and 3406 in 20 hours. All rebuilds made it to a million miles, but there were times he got sloppy and now it's a month doing anything lol.

I did my N14 in 4 days, including paint. Then spent 3 days dealing with injector woes.

I forget the name of the place I think it was in Washington state. It was a western state anyway. People were saying $15-3800 for hat custom harness depends on what it is. Not that bad considering how many awfull hrs it would take to rewire a truck.

When I saw that engine it did not look as good as advertised. No paperwork on the rebuild. But the truck just has a smashed bunk. Was sitting a few years.
