The insurance company will usually handle it.
As far as reselling, it’s easier than you think. There are 3d party companies that buy damaged freight but not at the original value. The saying goes, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
My friend recently opened his own trading account. He decided to buy a freight of eggs (around $20k). He picked it up on OH and was going to deliver it in a bakery somewhere in NJ. I told him, you need a coa and a certification from an inspector emailed to you. He didn’t do that and the customer didn’t want the eggs.
He eventually called me and I gave him contact info to this Korean Mart down in VA. I called him early this morning. The Mart bought the eggs and he profited 1.5% from it. I couldn’t stop laughing for 15 min straight. So I said, 1.5% is better than losing $20k down the drain.

We have a few on line auctions around here that have a lot of damaged and store return items. Don't know how they get them but weekly have a lot of stuff.

I have no dog in this fight since auto haul usually a small dent or scrap is repaired and the shipping company is charged for the repair. BUT, I would bet that a large part of damaged freight never even makes it to the destination, we have all seen the whole semi loads of dog food, beer, detergent, etc etc, sprawled all across the road from an accident, bridge hit, truck off road etc. this is where I would assume large parcels of damaged freight come from???
iceman32 and brian991219 Thank this. -
Lot of it ends up in dollar stores or liquidation places ..
