I bet property is cheap out there! Course you spend a lot in gas just going 300 miles to the nearest store! Sounds like a decent gig, however being from FL I couldn't handle those temps! Gotta have some pretty thick blood to handle those temps all winter! I bet Carhardt makes some $$$$ out there!

Surprisingly, its pretty mild except for about 3-4 weeks out of the year. January and february can be deadly brutal with up to 20 days of -10 to -25 temps for 20 days in a row.

Imagine living in a deep freezer. It would be warmer.

    chompi Thanks this.

No such thing as cheap property anymore. I can't even afford to start farming, let alone buy a house.

Carhartt's give me a break, coldest junk i've ever wore. dickies, or wall's is where it's at when the wind is blowing.

From one who checked it out:

You MUST have housing first. No parking a camper; no sleeping i vehicle with wheels. The way to do it is to get a commitment from a company before you go that includes a man camp..Those man camps are pre fab one story dorms about 400 8'x10' rooms. Google Tioga man camp video on utube. Bed desk TV closet. Dining hall open 24/7. Clean dorm showers. Women, drugs, booze, smoking your out and out of the job. Hours and pay for tank drivers go's like this: 12 hour day 14 days in
    a row then week off. Work 2 get paid three. Pay: 84 hours pays 40 x 1 + 20 x 1.5 (OT) 24 x 2 (Double time) weekoff pays 40. Three week cycle = 118 x 2 + 40 = 276 paid hours divided by 3 weeks = 92 paid hour average x $22.00 to $24.00 per hour
= roughly $2,100 a week. I live 500 miles from Williston and guys are car pooling home the 3 rd week. Try Power Fuels or Missouri Basin. Have Hazmat "X". Only real important question remaining is:
    "Are You Tough Enough"?????

Company's up there, like Power Fuels, will reserve dozens of rooms with the camps so there new hires have a place to stay. Work your ### off, get rich, go to Carribean

Do not come to Western ND looking for a job unless you can sleep in the vehicle you drive here in. I mean it. Work has been slowing up here for months, and that means guys who aren't working are also looking for a place to rent because they have more time to kill. I know so many water haulers who tell me they are lucky to get 40 hrs/week and, as you know, the claim to fame of the ND oil patch is in the OVERTIME.

If your company can get you space in a mancamp, go for it. But if they cannot help you, bring your own toilet paper and wipes because there aren't any Motel 6s out here!

Texas DPS has some troopers who have left due to new jobs involving Eagle-Ford Shale, if EFS can pull employees from DPS then OP should consider examining the Victoria newspapers or look around Karnes County for camping areas....

Hubby has been hauling water in Western North Dakota for nearly 3 years now. We have a home in Watford and the housing is easing up just a bit. I do have a few leads for anyone interested.
    Message me.
