On the normal 40 channels you do not need a license to use single side band.
squirrellsgnwild Thanks this. -
No, ssb is legal. Find out more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-sideband_modulation
squirrellsgnwild and Baack Thank this. -
then why dont more truckers use ssb?
-
Because alot of times, it depends on conditions. Also, alot of drivers such as I, like to run a little bit of echo/reverb, and these do not sound good on SSB. They sound good on AM if adjusted accordingly.
I talk quite a bit of skip on SSB (27.385 lsb & 27.515 lsb), when conditions are good for long distance. By long distance, I mean Texas to Jamaica, or from coast to coast.squirrellsgnwild Thanks this. -
what is your rig and how many watts you using?
-
If the skip is rolling, the CB band will go hundreds or even thousands of miles with very low power, no amount of power will force long distance communications when the skip isn't going.
I have talked barefoot, mobile to mobile, over 1000 miles.
Sideband is less congested, and you don't have the carrier waves all clashing, so it is more useful. -
Are you all talking about upper and lower sideband?
-
Yes, he and we are referring to upper & lower sideband (SSB).
As far as my current setup, it's a Galaxy 99V, Texas Star DX 1000, Predator 10k antenna, and an Astatic 636L mic
