I've got an '03 single turbo pre-emissions C15 I'm about to put to work in a couple of months. I've been driving company trucks for years but never had a Cat. It's always been ISX Cummins or 12.7 Detroits. I actually wanted to get a truck with an ISX but found a cat powered KW that had been meticulously maintained and never idled so I bought it. What is the rpm sweet spot on this engine? Is it likely I'll get 6.0 mpg? This is a t600 aerodyne 13 od with 3:70 rears and no fairing on top of the sleeper pulling a 53' dry van. Avg gross will be about 75K running I81 in VA weekly. It's been a few weeks since I took it for a ride but I belive 1600 rpms puts me at about 70mph and I planned on running 68mph pretty much everywhere I go. Welcome all comments on single turbo c15's thanks!

That's a great engine, however I will warn you that it has a habit of eating the turbo on this engine. If and when you run into that problem just know there is a fix. I found a location that discusses this problem and helps explain where to get a heavy duty replacement turbo, just google when looking for caterpillar turbochargers. I wish you well, and good luck with your new truck!

if thats a bridge motor (serial number begining with MBN) you'll be lucky to see 5mpg
droy Thanks this. -
I believe it does start with MBN but my truck isn't handy right now and I can't find some paperwork that had the engine serial# on it. I didn't know there were any "bridge" cats with a single turbo? The truck was assembled in April '03 before the october standards went into effect.

mbn = p.o.s. but it can be fixed

Can I put a programmer on it and help? I am my own warranty...

i have a mbn engine.. what i have done with mine is got rid of the catalyc mufflers, which gained me 1mpg... dont try to get a programmer on it cause it wont work,,, the ecm will just derate the engine... i had to replace my ecm cause of corrosion.. so i replaced it with an 6NZ ecm and wowwwww... i am now getting a strong 5.8 mpg in the hills across 64 going into virginia.... and on the flat lands going up 95 to philadelphia i am getting 7.8 mpg and that is with a bad turbo which now my truck is in philadelphia freightliner getting the turbo replaced.....oh and i done an OVERHEAD to it at 600k... that is my two cents

Hello, I have a mbm engine 475 single turbo, my mpg is about 4.3 and I am super mad... Just bought the truck, but the low mpg is killing me. I have a question regarding the ecm. What made you change the ecm for 6NZ? I have found a used ecm starting with 6NZ and I was wondering if you get any warnings or codes after changing the ecm ? my other question, were do I flash it to 600? dealer or any shop would do it and what is the price about. Thanks in advance, I am new to cat, own Macks.
