It's manageable if your feet are on the peg boards by the brake and shifter. You have more reach to operate the handle bars. Ive ridden a bike like that. Not smart, but fun to try once in a controlled environment. Of course, I've got over 50,000 miles on motorcycles... I would have been too scared to try it if I had no experience.

I prefer regular height drag bars. I hate ape hangers, but it was worth trying them out before judging them

Ape hangers as you call them CANNOT be comfortable for more than just a couple of mins.
The arms are not designed to stay at that height.

    #### the ergonomic designers to hell, eh? :biggrin_25521:
I'm not sure how sitting on the floor gives any benefits of having an air-ride seat, unless of course, they make custom air ride seats for the knuckle draggers these days.

Maybe they should put a functioning air button by where your hand wants to be and leave the other one there for "bling".

Thank Gawd you ain't running an 18 speed and using them all. You would need some lube and everybody would call you a chicken choker instead of a chicken hauler.....

You need that extra sun visor because now you are sitting on the floor. Mandatory safety equipment.:biggrin_25522:

Now we are at the other extreme. LOL!

I've been an independent and a company "sheep" and it had no bearing on how I chose to ride down the road in the day.

My knees couldn't take it either, but even if they could, I still wouldn't sit on the floor.

I would use my armrests, as a rule, but I had a habit of leaving my hand rest on the shift knob.

I got into a discussion about that a long time ago with another guy who was road testing me for a company gig and decided it pertinent to smack my hand when I would leave it on the shifter. He said I was destroying the forks, linkage, etc.

I was about to ball up said hand and rest it on his left cheek, but opted to just have an animated discussion with him. Basically said, "You can't find anything wrong with my shifting, unless I suppose you believe I'm supposed to still use that funny foot pedal on the left side..... and that's the best you can come up with?"

Since I'm one of those people who can shift with 2 fingers and a thumb, I'm all about going easy on a shift lever. And I would put no body weight on it - or fight the natural motion of the lever as torque and other factors moved it around. I don't think I did too much shift fork destroyin' over the years.

First truck I ever drove. And the crappiest shift linkage known to man.

I saw a guy with one of those long shifters the other day. Looked pretty stupid to me.

Must be trying to compensate for something!

the big shifter makes up for other things that he might not have. They sit really low cause they are ashamed at the selfs.

SmoothShifter, I agree with what you said.

Regarding stick movement with torque application...I have been watching mine for it, even lightly rested my hand over the knob, allowing for stick movement. I don't see any with this one. This tranny is still as tight as the day it rolled off the assembly line. The ones I've had with all that movement were sloppy anyway...through thousands of miles of grinding.

And can someone explain this to me. i have been driving trucks 35 years counting farm military and commercial. Everything from Autocar to Western Star and I have never had to open the door and stick my leg out to back up. Half the time I dont even put the window down. Now what can you see by hanging half way out the truck that you cant see in the mirror and I know you cant see out the passenger side mirror hung out the truck

I've seen a few guys with the tall shifters. Often they'll be on the custom/rodded out rides. I saw this guy running hay on I-5 in the San Joaqiun Valley drving a bright yellow Pete with a single drive axle, the big loud pipes, and the 5 foot shifter with a skull knob on top. Some of you guys might have seen him rolling around out that way. Truck like that is hard to miss.
