regarding time off. otr..you wont be home one day every week. the formula on most places is one day every week you're out. most likely you be out a month, then 3 days off. if i had family, the ltl gig would be better. good luck and be safe

The best job I ever had was a Linehaul team run from Atlanta, Ga to Dallas,Tx. That's all I did for 7 years. I was home every other day during the week and home 2 days on the weekend. Just pulled doubles back and forth from terminal to terminal. View attachment 67974

Yeah, I was comparing to Crete / Shaffer and their 1 day off for every 6 days out. However, from what other veteran drivers have told me, I know you can't always fully rely on or expect to get hometime when you want it, how you want it. I was considering rolling w/ Crete / Shaffer and staying out at least 30 days, in order to get my 5 days off. Funny thing, I heard conflicting stories from two different recruiters. One said I could 'bank' up to 5 days max, another said I would have 4 days w/ 30 days out, but that I could get that 'extra' 5th day approved. Either way, I knew that it wouldn't be a strict 30 days out, but whenever they could get me home. I might've wound up running 34 days or something like that, by the time I got home... Not something I have to be concerned about with anymore.

What are some of the companies that you would recommend for LTL Linehaul?

    Thanks,

    No comparing LTL to OTR.

Most of what you hear OTR to be is BS propagated by the mega-crap companies in order to entice newbies to fill the seats of their constantly vacated trucks. Turnover in OTR is 100%.

LTL is a job. Turnover at most LTL companies is around 5%.

I think most people vote with their feet. If you can get a LTL job do it. OTR can get you by until you find one.

OTR is not a bad job, it is just most of the companies in the game are bad and full of it. Although there is some definite negatives to the OTR life.

Good job thinking it out. Get a LTL job and with the extra money the first year you can by a motorhome and take the whole family on a much more enjoyable trip.

Apply to the LTL companies, you have nothing to lose. Except for central??? They are real bad if I remember. YRC and work on the dock? YRC is laid back but not the best.

    Kannonball Thanks this.

Cons- Sharing your truck....have to check in and out every time instead of just pulling over and crashing.....possible bedbugs....no tax break for being away from home....possibly your customers suck but you're stuck with them.

Pro's- everything you said.....OD has the coolest design on their trucks....much less stress knowing what you're getting into every day even if you're not crazy about the customers.
