I’m actually a pretty decent mechanic, but this is the first I’ve come into air brakes. Everything else has always been hydraulic or electric.
I work for a mega with 5000+ trailers so I check brakes on my pretrip every time. I just want to make sure I’m doing it right and maybe learn some tips and tricks to make my life easier. My trainer never checked the brake stroke. Ever.

I know one is out period. A stroke of 3 inches and all the others are less than 2inch.

dont need them, i can already visualize them. Also, auto slack adjusters wont compensate for wore out cam bushings. You can adjuster a slack adjuster and may seem to be in adjustment but with wore out cams, the push rods will still over extend. All bs aside, you have to know your equipment to have a safe ride. If all components are in good shape, brake chambers, cams, cam bushings, shoes and drums, the slack adjusters work flawlessly.

I love this site. Everyone just loves to argue.
blairandgretchen, dibstr and SL3406 Thank this. -
check those specs in the link. You can check your rears without a assistant. Check the measurement with parking brake disengaged, then put truck in gear so it wont roll and disengage parking brake and check measurement againt. Chock the wheels if that feels safer.

Somebody probably ####ed up and cut the pushrod too short.
-
eh, im guilty as sin for that but i hope the guy doesnt take it personal. im a nice guy in personAModelCat Thanks this.

I do take it personal and I think you should never come to the oilfield.
-
ok i will stay away from oil field bro

I hope that was sarcasm. I don’t see anyone cutting a brake pushrod.
I’m off to sleep I have an early morning. Gonna see if I can find a better trailer at customer and leave this one at a shop to take care of everything. I’m tired of it.
Anything work better then a sharpie for marking push rods?
