Slamming the tandem stop when sliding trailer

They don't own it so they don't care. Simple as that.

 

What do you all mean "slam the king pin".

 

When hooking up to a wagon, some feel you have to hook up in high range reverse, hitting the pin really hard. Sometimes, with worn 5th wheels, that is necessary, and usually sounds a lot worse than it is. You aren't going to hurt the pin any. Same with a slider, years ago, trailer sliders that were seldom used, would rust, loaded you'd never get them to move, resulting in drastic measures, up against a curb, for example. Today, I doubt Stevens has old wagons, like the RR used, and easy does it will work, no need to slam the stop. There again, trailer suspensions are pretty tough, anything short of dragging them over a guard rail, you won't hurt them.

 

We have those Lease trailers you’ll commonly see. Also some we own. Fifth wheel is the type with a wedge that goes across to lock in the king pin. All of it works well. No reason to slam anything.

 

Not their equipment so why should they care?. Baffles the mind though

Watched a guy knock a trailer backwards at least 2 inches he backed under it so hard while connecting. So me, being me, asked why he backed under at such a high speed.
He looked at me just disgusted that I dared asked. Then proceeds to tell me how " If you don't hit them really hard, they may not lock into the 5th wheel right".

I just shook my head, and walked away.
He was a company driver, not his truck or trailer.
By the way if you are ever in Canada and see a truck that says CN Rail on it, consider yourself warned, they are absolutely terrible drivers, but no matter what they do, they can't be fired, their union protects them no matter what.

 

I guess tugging back and forth isn't good enough.

Gotta SLAM that baby.

 

Its all fun & games until they beat the hell out of the slider box bad enough that it wiggles going down the road.

 

To be fair - on more than 1 occasion I've slammed the tandem stops when my automated transmission decided that my stepping on the brake pedal was more of a suggestion to stop than a command.

Especially with the Eaton autos, finesse can be hard to obtain.
