I don't have insurance, so I buy my own stuff.

I have managed to not pay more than 31 dollars (and usually more like 20 to 25) for every cushion (nasal mask), by buying online. I also have bought new headgear and filters and hose (mine has a heated hose to prevent condensation in the hose), all for half or less of the local DME's prices.

I'm going to buying a CPAP that's more convenient for travel soon, and have noticed that the DME's get well over 1000 to 2000 dollars for what I can buy for 300 to 600 online.

Have you seen the Transcend battery CPAP? It was in OOIDA's land line mag last issue.

I've got one.. if you don't need lots of humidification it works ok. Make sure you get the 16 hr battery if your pressure is over 16.

I have had sleep apnea now for about 15 years.... Problem is I had an an old machine all these years so I got out of trucking about 5 years and in that time DOT has passed a new law saying you have to have a machine now with a smart card so when you go do your physical that they will need a read out to make sure you are sleeping on it every night you have to be 70% compliant on that machine for them to pass you..Now not all places you get your medical card are doing this scene I just got an DOT card recently to test drive for the company I'm going to work for but the company that I'm applying for goes by the DOT guideline and now I was denied a DOT card and they said I have to sleep on this machine until I reach 70% and they will pass me which will be another 2 to3 weeks now ..So this is the trend in the way its going...DOT will regulate who's going to give physicals in the near future..
