All this means is its disqualifying if you choose not to be treated for it....not because you actually are diagnosed with it. If you are diagnosed with sleep apena and don't treat it, you are a danger behind the wheel. As somebody who has been sleeping with CPAP for 5 years I couldn't agree more with the above posts about how rested I now feel. It saved my life.

It also means that is what might have happened. Not that he was missing momma.

Thats kinda the point. I would have told you I was breathing while I slept too.

Waking up and feeling as tired if not more so than when I went to sleep in the first place. Dragging tail all day and falling asleep at the drop of a hat, easily within 5 minutes. Which as I understand it , is a tell for the docs.

Just prior to taking the study I had a complete physical. Blood work and EKG too. Awesome results. All blood work within normal ranges. EKG was fine too.

During my initial study my sleep was interupted an average of 26 times an hour!!!!

Now , with my machine , I wake up rested, my moods are better, just feel better all the way around.

Being able to plug it in WILL be a deciding factor in signing with a company. My health is more important than my desire to drive.

Very true, I guess the point I was trying to make is being diagonsed with sleep apnea is not a death sentence on the CDL which is the impression I got from the OP's concerns.

Its just as easy that the friend couldn't afford the test due to no insurance and decided to not pursue a driving career.

It can be the end of many a drivers career with the cost of the testing.

Just barely exceeds the deductible on my insurance. A friend around here paid for one study at 5200.00.

When you go to get your DOT physical there will be a question on the long form that asks if you snore or have ever been treated for a sleep disorder. If you answer yes to that question they will need proof of treatment and you will only get a 1 year card. If the Doc suspects you have it he can refuse to certify you until you get a sleep study. BMI and neck size are used to determine this.

A little over 2 years ago my family Doc suggested that I do a sleep study. I had just renewed my medical card and was good for 2 years. Company insurance paid for 80% of my study and I had a CPAP in the truck a couple of months later.

You have to be careful because once diagnosed you are not supposed to drive until its treated. That can take weeks. I never missed any work because my medical card was current and I went through my family Doc. There is a bit of a grey area there and had I had an accident during that time a sharp lawyer probably could have stuck it to me.

I just renewed my card last week and was given a 1 year card and they had to see the data downloaded from my machine to prove compliance. I also had a letter from my sleep doctor stating that my condition was under control.

I have no problem using the machine. After 2 years my body is trained and I will fall asleep shortly after putting the mask on even if its at an odd time outside of my sleep rhythms. I also need less hours of sleep to feel refreshed. Before the machine it was 8+ a night. Afterwards I only need 6-7 hours and feel better.

As far as sinus infections you have to keep the machine clean and change the water daily. I have 2 masks. I never use the same one more than 3nights in a row without cleaning it when I take a shower. In between cleanings I use a baby wipe. same deal with the water holder.

I've had 2 studies and now have a Cpap machine. I've gotten use to it in the past 8 months ,and I now look forward to a good nights sleep. The test showed that I woke up 39 times every hour,no wonder I was exhausted every day.My wife loves the Cpap because now she can sleep in the same bed with me.I use to snore so bad that the neighbors use to complain lol.
