Has anyone lost enough weight to the point where you got your neck size and BMI under the flagged mark? What happens then? Do they get you off the cpap machine or is it a retake of the study and go from there?

More often than not, once you are on the machine, you are on it for life. The things that lead to sleep apnea in the first place, do NOT get better with age. While obesity is an indicator, and a contributor to it, losing weight is unlikely to put you in condition where you don't need it.
FACE IT BOY, YOU AIN'T GETTIN' NO YOUNGER AS TIME GOES ON. . .

Oh hmmm sounds a little rediculous. I've lost enough weight where I now need only one bp med instead of two. Get my bp down enough for no meds and my primary said I could be taken off bp meds. So I'm assuming I would be reinstated for a 2 year card.
With that being said, my friend got the band surgery lost a ton of weight had sleep apnea. Doesn't have it anymore due to his weight loss. He doesn't drive tho so I figured I would ask. Thanks for the response -
I'm not sure what my study cost, but the insurance company (BC/BS) said they would pay 80%.....
After I pay the first $1700.00. So I think I'm still going to be out a chunk o' money. For nothing. -
X2. It can happen, but how many people do you know that make a significant enough lifestyle change at age 40+ that it would positively impact their health enough to erase the previous decades of poor health decisions?
That's not saying to not shoot for an improvement. You can decrease you risk for heart disease and get off BP medication (some people) just by losing weight.
That's the catch...with some plans...you have to hit a certain payment threshold before they'll even REALLY start paying for stuff enough that it'll help. That deductible resets each year. -
I'm sure someone said something like that when his doctor said they wouldn't be using leaches any longer since they had this new fangled stuff called "medicine."
I know a number of folks who have started using a CPAP who have said they feel better now than they ever have in all of their lives.Big Don Thanks this. -
The thing is, this study was "advised" by a doctor, who only gave me a 3 month card, until I had it done. She was only worried about BMI, not anything I said, or my wife said.
The study was negative. So I still say " for nothing" -
Yea ear that's true. I'm 25 so I still have time to sharpen up and get things right.bubbagumpshrimp Thanks this. -
Funny how this happens after 23 yrs of driving your sleep patterns are your sleep patterns . How can some kind of study on a none truck driver give them accurate guidelines ? I for one have spent a many of 24hr periods getting catnaps or spotsleep . Woke up by loaders beating against a trailer lot lizards etc etc . After 23 years of not truly sleeping a straight hard 8 hrs and getting it while you can they are now trying to mandate it. Funny if there is a natural disaster the Gov passes out the free passes so you can drive 24hrs a day 7 days a week until said disaster is over with. Just more bureaucratic BS. Do as I say not as I do. Funny how it is ok for a Surgeon who is responsible for ones life is allowed to stay up and work straight through as long as they want only getting cat naps everyonce in awhile during a shift. Same with emergency response and fighter pilots. Not to mention our armed forces. But hey what ever soon I will retire and not have to deal with it. Glad I have a Examiner that takes into account my health instead of some wild guidelines. Funny my friends that have sleep apnea are in great shape and do not fall up under the guidelines for a mandatory test. Yet I who is 6' 225lbs and built from many years a weightlifting and football do because of neck size funny how that works.Guess on my next exam we will see what happens.

BMI, or actually obesity, is one of the symptoms of having a sleep disorder. How about that, you came up negative. Be happy- 4 out of 5 with a hefty BMI aren't that lucky.
