The problem is most people would lie to protect their med card.

Cool, why can't we just ask them if they are tired? If they answer in the affirmative then perhaps further testing is required. If they answer that they sleep great then what condition is being treated?

Then why stop at sleep apnea? Why not require a house search for alcohol? Maybe they just sobered up for the day. Why not require testing for all sorts of potential medical conditions where the driver could lie? Why are you being so limited when it comes to safety?

Maybe your thinking is wrong. Let's see, how do you or they make that choice? If they are tired and it's normal for them how would they ever know they are tired ?

Once again because people are not honest with their doctors. You'd be amazed at how many doctors complain about this. People are to afraid of the costs and finding out that there is something wrong with them requiring lifestyle changes.

Surely you are joking here. You really believe that another person is more qualified than you to make that call? If you do then I guess that explains a lot.

Perhaps if they didn't feel that doctors were targeting them and preventing them from earning a living they would be more open. Perhaps if doctors would actually treat the symptoms they are presented with then people would be less suspicious.

And a lot of people would attribute being tired to working hard and the day to day grind. They may not realize it's because even though they are getting enough hours, it's still not quality sleep to rest and reset their body.

I guess that thought would dissipate when I had a day where I just sat on the couch and did nothing but was still tired.

That is another whole issue all together. We focus to much on maintenance for health instead of prevention. Like I said earlier, most people are not willing to make the lifestyle changes that are necessary and then complain about being "targeting" when in fact it's their poor decisions that have led them there.
