I'm going to add these final thoughts and exit this discussion. I imagine based on the data I have seen IF I am killed on the highway by a CMV that driver most likely was using a device of some kind OR was spaced out on some drug NOT so tired because of OSA caused lack of sleep. The stats on OSA deaths don't back up the "crisis" response we seem to have seen over the last 15 or so years. This tells me somebody has followed the mantra "never let a good crisis go to waste" and started this OSA business. Now as I stated and will repeat again IF you have this problem get help.
Right now as I type this comment I know of several drivers in limbo because of crooked MEs that have poisoned their medicals because of this OSA crap. This is one of the reasons Congress has directed the USDOT to STOP with the OSA standards! Still, this myth persists that there are standards.
I think a better system for OSA is for the MEs to defer to a driver's PCM and let them examine the driver and render their medical opinion about this person's fitness to drive a CMV. The FMCSA and the Railroads generally are already doing this with things like cardiac conditions and eyes. Why not add OSA to this? Why are MEs demanding sleep studies and totally forcing a driver's PCM out of the loop? Makes no sense until you start looking at the----
What was that quote from that movie "All the presidents men"??
I'm done!!!!
Sleep study needed for Schneider will other companies need one too?

I'm not sure why cpap machines don't apply to law enforce given accidents appear to be about the same, but I think most drivers would know if they need a cpap machine or not and since individual drivers are held responsible for their actions and liability isn't passed onto cpap companies or physicians then it's a no brainier who should be responsible to decide.
How many times have you seen someone make a decision and not been held accountable for their actions? Knowing that why should a physician be allowed to force a sleep study onto a driver leading to a cpap machine that ultimately the driver is still held accountable regardless of the physicians opinion.
Also weight isn't a factor even skinny people can have sleep apnea a body builder could weigh 430 lbs and have 7% body fat at 5'10" and be considered, "morbidly obese" since BMI doesn't measure for bone density or muscle mass, muscle tends to have higher density than fat not everyone is skinny to fit the out dated 100+ year old BMI index. Genetics plays a huge role in that. So a sumo wrestler and a body builder would look completely different but could weigh the same, but again sleep apnea is not a big enough deal to even discuss it clearly it's profit motive driven. It's easy to research that cpap machines can actually CAUSE weight gain too!
It's like gee do I want to expose myself to apparently pneumonia, bacteria viruses, bronchitis, etc (especially during a PANDEMIC) all so what some physician can make a few bucks take no liability whatsoever (which I hope changes) and if the diver wrecks etc the driver is held at fault. Should be up to the driver to decide if it helps a couple out then great but forcing others onto a temporary get rich quick snake oil scheme shouldn't be forced onto anyone.
Seems like you just want to force cpap machines onto drivers I bet you have multiple accounts pretending to be different. Most truckers in bulk don't want to be forced into anything and want the freedom of choice.Last edited: Apr 26, 2021

I do see multiple customers a week who either get a new machine, supplies, or have questions on their existing machine. New Cpap customers make up for up to 12 people we see a week The rest can range from o2, beds, etc. Fact remains that the vast majority of the people who I see are overweight and have had conditions that have prompted their DR to want to investigate more. Not often is it the "430 lbs and have 7% body fat at 5'10" person.
As far as having multiple accounts, I do not have enough time in the day. -

You can clean CPAP machine if you use humidity. You don't have to use any humidity and then your breathing or running thru CPAP machine is the same air you breath every night in truck.
If someone has 20 Events of sleep apnea. They stop breathing for 200 seconds or 3.33 minutes per hour. If they sleep 7 hours, they don't breath for 23 minutes a night. Try holding you breath for 23 minutes and see if you notice any difference. You can see some people would not sleep good if they had 10 or 20 Events per hour or more.
I had very good results from using CPAP. I thought before my test I don't have it because I was sleeping like I normally do. You don't notice how bad you are sleeping because it happens over so many years. I thought the crazy dreams were normal and not feeling good in the morning until I woke up more was normal. -
You always want to bring up a worst case scenario to promote your cpap machines and bipap machines lol. I don't want to inhale the apparently plastic smog emitting cpap machines I'm perfectly fine with going to bed when I'm tired like people have done for thousands of years+.
The way cpap diagnosis is now even people with supposedly mild sleep apnea (but a fake rigged positive test could lie and say that) is treated like a worst case scenario patient which is absurd. I think they should remove the profit behind cpap machines all together that would pretty much eliminate cpap fraud.Last edited: Apr 27, 2021

So now plastic fumes are related to obese people that are getting a machine for the first time? Thats a new one. Then again I have never personally heard of a water chamber heating up to the point that it would cause fumes. The little metal plate on the bottom of them can get hot turned all the way up (150f if I recall) so depending on what sort of plastic they use or its melting point I guess it could happen. I hear more complains from people who buy those ozone sanitizers about the off smell they get after sanitizing their equipment.
As far as profit, I am the bottom of the CPAP chain as an hourly employee . By the time I am seeing the customer they have been to their PCP, a Pulmonologist, Sleep Dr, Sleep Study, ect. I am just one of the people that explains how to use it, suggests a mask, answers any questions and sends them on their way.
So for me I do not care if Johnny marine, or joe the truck driver gets a cpap. How they handle their health is on them. It just makes no difference to me -

They sell just regular CPAP machine. They only run at the set pressure then automatic setting CPAPs. They can adjust pressure on every breath when sleeping. Then BIPAP a machine. Then if someone has more sleeping problems with breathing. They sell a machine that will basically help someone breath because their brain or something is not telling them to breath. That's why in a sleep lab they make people wear the sensor the go on chest or stomach. They are looking to see if that person is even trying to breath in and out when sleeping.
I show the more severe sleep apnea because I would think Someone will see a bigger benefit from cpap like myself I had really high AHI or Events. I have noticed a big help from my BIPAP wouldn't go back to sleeping without one. I did not like wearing the mask at first. Now I would not sleep without it.
If you ever buy the cheap bottle water you can taste the plastic in the water. Bottle made the better plastic you don't taste it. I never heard anyone saying anything about plastic fumes they can notice from CPAP other then that story of one melting.Last edited: Apr 27, 2021
