I was a local delivery guy for 3 years, did tanker for 6 months or so and I've been doing OTR reefer for about a year now. I have realized how essentially constant communication and tracking are necessities and I find it exhausting. Even if you have your own truck brokers are calling you every day.
I don't want to do local because I live in the truck.
Like nobody trusts you to do anything without double and triple confirm, double and triple track, auditing etc
All the constant calls from dispatchers and brokers, I mean I understand they are getting me loads so I'm not gonna be rude or not answer cause then I'm just Is giving them a reasons not give me loads.

But I like driving and living in a truck
I can even accept an ELD as its a law, but as if that wasn't enough tracking theres also load tracking and constant check in calls and confirming. Like why does a broker need to call me 3 times a day when you already have all my tracking information 24 hours a day and i have their load tracking app on location to "allow all the time"
Guess overall i probably liked tanker the best, youre still tracked but dont have to deal with warehouses and can load/unload yourself and get some exercise.

Maybe I should get into something else cause it's only gonna get worse in the coming years but any other job may call or check in with me too i guess my dream of freedom is a dead one.

You say constant, but every 3-4 hours? It all depends on your concept of constant communication. I think there's plenty of companies that will just leave you alone and trust you to deliver or call if you have questions or issues. Brokers, on the other hand, can be annoying. That also depends on the company and the freight they haul. I primarily haul "company freight" which goes to our customers so I rarely deal with brokers.

You could work for a trucking company with dedicated accounts. That's cuts down phone calls to 1 dispatcher.
Are pulling containers from railyards or ports? That's always going to be a PIA for many reasons.

Yeah i could see how dedicated could be like that. And no railyards or shipping containers for me, I do reefer like regular frozen food usually

Brokers are annoying. Its part of the business. The reason they call you so often is because theres too many limp dicks out here that dont know how to do their job and tend to not communicate when something is going wrong... Dont ever be that guy... Find a good company u enjoy working with, and build a relationship with dispatch when they find u can be trusted and are reliable and have good communication they will leave you alone... The brokers however aa a company driver theres a couple ways to deal with them, you can be like some Drivers and tell them to f off and call your dispatch or you can be a professional and represent your company in a good way by answering the questions they ask you and being respectful... Its not rocket science. Do a good job, leave a good impression and watch how fast you move up the food chain

I think getting calls multiple times a day is a lot. In an ideal world id just be able to work and maybe have a phone call from a boss (or customer, or whatever) once a week (assuming no other major problems) or every 2 weeks. I'll keep dreaming i guess haha

That sounds more like "cabin in the woods" instead of any kind of job that contributes to society in any way.

Meanwhile it's 5 o'clock, we're all getting ready to go home for the day and a driver shows up out of the blue with a $250k machine and expects us to unload him ASAP.......

    Real great communication.
