what would you have done back when I was a driver? We didn't have inverters or flat screens or a/c for that matter let alone one that ran when the truck wasn't. Of course back then it was cabovers and 36" crawl thru bunks too. When you stopped you fueled and went to bed. No playing games and all that stuff. If you ate in the truck and you wanted a hot meal you put a can of chili on the engine or wrapped your hamburger up in foil and put it on the turbo till it was done or hot. I could go on about the good ol' days but you get the idea.

A PS3 alone uses over 200 watts and a 600 watt inverter is rated for 600 MAXIMUM watts, but not continuous. Most inverters can only continuously use half the wattage that it's listed as. I tried a PS3 on a 450 and it shorted it out. To run an LCD TV and PS# at the same time, you'd need 1000 watt inverter at minimum. Good luck with that though as most companies won't let you have anything over 450-600 and they have to plug into a 12volt cigarette outlet.

My company fortunately has APUs on all of their newer trucks, so I don't have to worry about inverters except to power my laptop and aircard. I rarely have enough downtime while training anyway to play my PS3, so it's been home the past year. Kept my TV onboard though...can't miss any college football games.

Your going to need a 300 watt dc to ac inverter. You can run a tv for 2 to 3 hours a day with no problem when your shut down. You can get an inverter at any major truck stop for about $30.00.

i bought a 750 watt inverter today and a 26"led tv. the manual says that its 750 watts continuous with surges to 1500. I dont want to hook it to the battery, but if I have to hopefully there is a way without drilling holes. truck is a 2007 international. the ps3 will take 200-300 watts to run, but a 26" flat screen led tv only is only supposed to take 46watts while turned on.

Well, theres more than 1 way to go here..You can purchase a Power Inverter and use items just like you would at home 110v. Depending upon how many items you wish to run on 110v will determine the size inverter you need..They start small , about 80 watts and go up over 1500 watts..I used an 80 watt unit for TV or laptop, and a 1500 watt for a microwave (I strongly suggets you have the Company mechanic hook that up). OR..You can stay with all 12volt items and plug them into cigarette lighter outlets..Yes,even some TV's run 12volt..As for your truck batteries, the jury is still out on those..Did you ever leave the interior lights on in your car? (or pickup). Big truck batteries draw down usually overnight with very little left plugged in..That all depends unit to unit..Hope I helped..:biggrin_25511:

so i just read that if my cig outlet only gives me 120 watts, I can replace the fuse in the truck with the same fuse that is in the inverter and it will give me more watts. Can anyone verify this?

I also got to ask, as Ive read it many places including the previous post. If it needs to be hooked to the battery, why is it that hard to do that the mechanic should do it? Its just 2 clamps (1neg. , 1 pos.). Would it not be just like jumping a car? It seems to me the only hard part would be getting the cords from the battery inside the cab. Am I missing something?

Make sure that when you run the cords to the cab they are well protected, if they get chewed through at the edge they can cause a fire.
