I have my phone rooted and a custom rom so all those blocks are not there, before I put a custom rom on my current phone I used the usb mode with foxfi and it worked.

@x-country will those boosters be pretty expensive? I know some I have seen before were more than I wanted to pay when I was looking them up when I was otr, not too worried about it these days since I am 99% local and normally sleep in a city.

probably $400-$500 i imagine. but when you're out in the middle of BFE they come in real handy. or if you are in an area and only have a bar or two of signal.

So I just upgraded to Comcast cable and Internet at the house. The upload speed at the house is 8mps, which is much better than the 1.5 I was getting from Uverse. I now have a good tv experience in the truck using AT&T cell hotspot. I'm going to upgrade to a 40gig plan since 30gigs works out to 1 tv show per night.

I think this is still cheaper than using a Dish. I also don't have to fool with aiming the dish, or having a cube stolen. The chromecast I use to stream the iPad to the TV is not very reliable though. Think I may have to try a Roku device. Who knows, it might behave the same way.

if you have decent internet at home do you get home often enough where you can just download the shows and movies you want? would be a heck of a lot cheaper than paying for a 40gig plan for on the road. I am just glad I had unlimited when I was otr since I averaged 30-45gigs a month myself downloading movies and shows.

I used Sling Box for a while. I found that I could get everything I needed through Hulu and Netflix for much less and much easier. Anything else, I could just download via torrents while at home and store them on my Laptop. Then watch when I had time while out on the road.

The only reason I can see where Sling Box would be better is if your into sports. But from what I understand, they have PPV services online for those too.

I prefer not to have files of shows saved. I love how easy it is to use my dvr with the sling box. I've been using my sling box with Comcast for a while now. I've got access to on demand stuff and obviously live tv. The TV guide in the app is awesome.

There are some hiccups. I had to buy a Belkin Wemo so I could reset the box remotely when it hangs up sometimes. The chrome cast was complete garbage to me. I returned that within one week in favor of the Roku streaming stick. This works great with the Slingbox app.

I'm loving this set up for tv. Only downside is sometimes 4g is not available or is very unstable. When you get spikes it causes the Roku to crash. When things get real bad I bought a HDMI plug for the iPad that mirrors the pad to the tv. The video quality is not as good but it works through spotty cellular data connections.

i just bought the chromecast. google is wasting their time with that product. although i guess you can't complain too much with the price compared to roku. on sale for $25.

roku however, cna do the same thing that chromecast can do. and so much more.

Roku has more memory and works better than chrome cast. Great way to watch Netflix or Hulu in the truck on these newer flat screen TVs. Next product to review would be the Amazon Fire stick. It has even more memory and processor power. I won't get it but hope someone does.

the only thing amazon has is power and brain. AND fees for apps. and not as many. apparently.

roku may be slower but it has more games. and free apps.

So finally played around with the Amazon fire stick. The Fire Stick is better than Roku for using sling TV. You can directly control the Sling TV from the stick instead of doing it from the IPad like you do on the ROKU. That means one less thing that can go wrong while streaming.
