Not to my knowledge. There was a loophole in AT&T's "go phone," which is the pre-paid plan, where you could get unlimited service for $20 a month by either tethering it to a laptop or removing the sim card and putting it into a broadband card, but apparently they closed it and you can no longer get away with it.
Slingshot from Pilot. Any opinions-experiences?

I bought the Slingshot aircard about a month ago and they told me they
are no longer activating new services.
They told me to return the product to Pilot and that the Pilot should not
have sold me the aircard. -
I have been trying to find slingshot for about a month now. I was told in april by a pilot manager that they were not selling them at this time due to renegotiation of contract with slingshot and sprint. I dont know how true that was. Anyway I will just use the wandering wifi till something without contracts comes along. I went to the web site of millinecom and I was not impressed with the terms of use. too many if and or buttss. NOT.
Thanks for all the feedback. Truckerlew keep us posted, you are giving them my kind of fight. -
I still have my slingshot...am using it now...I'v renewed since they stopped selling them...and it all went through...
Without this slingshot i would be lost...I wish I had purchased two...I really do...
Like most...I too hate contracts...I hate terms...I hate being under anyones yoke...
Even my cell phones pre-paid with Virgin moble...$59.00 a month...free nights and weekends...evening start at 6:00pm now...
I've never been happier with a cell phone service...
And I can get a replacement phone for as cheap as $9.00 instead of $109.00 or more... -
I found out that Sprint is sueing Slingshot for advertising using Sprints name.
The contract they had was for Slingshot to use Sprints network but they were not
to use Sprints name in any kind of way which they did and now it is a big mess. I
went to the Pilot back in Febuary and bought Slingshots aircard which they were
not supposed to sell me at the time because they were not activating new
accounts. Slingshot told me to return the device back to Pilot and get a refund.
Went to Pilot and had to fight tooth and nail to get them to return my money. -
I think Slingshot is in some trouble... I still have not had a resolution to my problems in the 1xrtt connection area's. I STILL try to contact them. I have left over 30 messages over the last 2 months with NO return calls. I STILL have problems trying to renew my account. I STILL think that they are trying to downgrade thier customer service so thier customers will "just go away" I also think that Ghostchild is most likely a representative or somehow employed by Slingshot. ALL the posts he makes are all the same thing. Thats an indication of someone trying to do damage control for a product.

But no, I'm just a consumer like you who had been very happy with my service...slingshot literally changed my world, my life...now half my life is really on the web....
but sad to say...I think they have finally gone down...cause I to, for the first time, cannot get service as of friday...
The very next day i went to a 'best buy' store...and all my fears were realized.....CONTRACTS CONTRACTS AND MORE CONTRACTS...
2 year contracts by either Sprint, Verizon or AT&T....
I showed them the slingshot device...and they like almost got mad that I was able to get service all this time, without being bound and chained to their slavish contract plans...
Slingshot service is so out of their realm of thinking that they almost thought I was making it up...
Continued on next post... -
I decided to entertain the idea of getting one of their service plans...so they sat me down in a chair, with others...(In my mind it felt like I was being shackled in one of those medevial chairs where they strap your wrists and ankles)..
I sat down...and they beggin the information gathering process...where do you live? what is your social? Where were you born? What's your licence # ect ect ect...
I felt like I was being interogated...
Then there's the waiting period...and because I already know I have not the best credit...I knew they would want a lot of money down...and sure enough...Verizon wanted $400.00 down...to activate a 2 year bondage plan...yikes...
I said forget it and left...
But if I want the net to go with me wherever I go...eventually I may have no choice...so goes the way of the world...big mega companies want to control every aspect of your life... -

There may be some hope here for us...above is a link to a google search page with lots of pre-paid type services...I'm not sure how many come with a modem though...
I will search through them in a bit... -
Verizon does have a month-to-month option with no contractual obligation, but you'll need a device capable of being used on their networks -- the modem you have for slingshot won't do it.
You can buy brand new Verizon-labeled USB modems from reputable online sources for about $220 and up -- or you can take chances with used modems from places like eBay and craigslist. MAKE SURE the seller guarantees you a "clean ESN" so that you can actually use the device you buy.
Verizon's month-to-month service is still going to 'interrogate' you for personal information -- mostly because if you owed them money in the past they want to collect on that before you can be allowed back onto their network -- but there should not be a need for a security deposit since there is not a contract.
Verizon charges a $35 activation fee to start the month-to-month service, and charges $59.99/mo for 5GB allowance per month and $0.25/MB overage charge.
NOTE: If for some reason you call in an cancel/stop service, and then want it restarted again -- there is likely to be another $35 activation fee... so keep service going continuously if you can.
