Does anybody know a good place to buy these? I might be starting a new position soon where the best bet would be to have a box I could move into the truck every night rather than installing a decent radio.

I've got an idea for one that you can use in any kind of vehicle. It will sit on the dash and not slide around. It is along the lines of those bean bag mounts they make for a GPS. Would be pretty easy to do if you had access to a sewing machine.

I never used a box when I slip seated. Just a 4 watt radio, cigarette lighter power cord, 9' coax, and antenna mounted to vice-grip off mirror arm.

Bought a used one off ebay. Makes for easy in and out of multiple vehicles.

80.00 including shipping. It came with a cobra 25, coax, antenna mount and antenna. The wiring was sloppy where someone had added stuff instead of using existing wiring. It didn't include an am/fm radio so may add a 2 meter radio in that slot.

Knew a guy years ago that slip seated with UPS. He had his CB, linear, and external speaker all mounted on a padded board covered in carpet. Cut to sit flush on the dash. Then had his antenna mount welded to a vise grip. He was ready to roll in less than 5 mins. I see they actually sell those vise grip mounts now lol. He made his himself

I mount my CB on a short piece of 4"x4" square post. The factory [-shaped bracket is screwed into the post, and the radio fitted on the bracket. The setup is then placed in the best location in any given vehicle, eg on the seat, on the floor, in the back, wherever seems best. Once the volume and squelch are set and the channel (19) selected, I usually don't fool with the radio the rest of the trip except for using the mike. Cost: 0. Appearance: 0. Performance: 10.
