    welcome to the forum.

There is a political thread here. I've seen two of your three posts and both are very political. you may want to post that over there. They like the drama.

Well, Mac, your good sense is exactly why Ron Paul's run at the Presidency has been sabotaged.

Medicine Man is right. Politics has nothing to do with daily life, simple economics, and the fact that the guy who is driving for his stepdad can't make a living - lol

The political forum is down the hall. Unless you've got something to add as to whether or not the freight is truly as slow as I'm being told or whether this company is just a bad one, please keep your comments to yourself. Thank you.

Freight is definately slow. slower then it's been in years. Always is when there is a presidential election with no incumbant running(my political is related.lol)

It is most likely a mix of both. If they were a good company with great customer service then they would probably still have enough work. But that said, it is very slow so if you want to try another company it's a decision you need to make. It could turn out better but then it could be worse. Most the Good companies don't hire trucks very often. You pretty much have to wait for someone to die to get in.

I know what you mean by the good companies, MM. I had a job with the hometime I wanted prior to this endeavor. I just thought being an O/O would be a good thing and since my step dad has been a successful small business man for years that things would be easier for some silly reason.

I'm not ready to jump ship just yet. I still have a couple of pails that I can use to throw the water out with.

Being an owner operator is allot of work. And you don't own the truck so are you really getting the benifits or are you getting a drivers wage and he is getting his share? It may not be to your benifit to do all the work if you arn't getting the benifits.
Money really isn't a reason to go owner op anyways. It's more for having some control over your life

What about when dispatchers play favorites to the drivers that suck the most???

With Landstar its a LOT less likely to happen.

Unless you are able to shed that way of thinking Landstar WILL NOT be for you! There is no body to hold your hand and lead you to the freight there. I'm not trying to be mean but just pointing out the way it is.

Mercer is a dispatcher company. Thats why I didn't pick them, but went with LS instead.

I know Mike works for the second largest company in our area and it's definitely been slower these past six weeks than it was for the last six months. They've actually sent drivers home because they had nothing for them to do (very unusual here). Hopefully it'll pick up soon.

You have to find your own loads, Brickman? Even though you are dedicated to working for one company? That's a lot of work. I didn't think that's how it was. My neighbor is an O/O working for a large fleet and they do all the finding of loads for him. He never ever has to do anything to do with freight.

I'm sure there's a million ways for companies to do things - I just didn't think you had to look for your own freight if you were dedicated to a company - I thought that's why you did that, dedicated yourself to one company?
