As an old Iron hauler I always carried bottles of rubbing alcohol, vinegar,paper towels,and a clean bucket. You can wipe off with them,and be clean for the most part when you can't shower. Vinegar makes you smell like a salad for a little while ,but it kills the BO bacteria. The bucket catches what you slop in the truck. In warm weather I wore gym trunks,and did it at the rear of my trailer.
Diet is a tricky thing to do right. 600 calories to lose a pound of muscle,and 2400 calories to lose a pound of fat. If you do nothing to save the muscle like exercise up to ,and including weight training your body will burn muscle first ,and save the fat which will in the end have you being skinny fat if you yo yo diet to this effect you won't know who you are looking at in the mirror after a few try's at it.
Oatmeal is one of the best foods I have found for weight loss. Steel cut oats if you can get them,and yes forget about them being served at a truck stop. Oatmeal gives off its energy slower ,and you feel full longer. There is also something to be said about fish,chicken,eggs,olive oil ,nuts,and cruciferous vegetables. Starches get turned to sugar,and if not needed for energy get stored as fat for later use . For some people later use never comes . You do the math.
If you want to do cardio do it shortly after you awake if you can without eating first. If you do it while still fasting from sleeping you will force your body to burn fat,but if you eat first ,and break the fast your body will not fuel itself on body fat ,but the fruit loops you just ate.
Smoking,and Alcohol are bad as they both constrict blood vessels. You can supplement your diet with L-Arginine as it is a precursor to Nitric Oxide which helps to expand our blood vessels ,and facilitate blood flow. Serious weight lifters supplement with it all the time. Think Viagra that you take every day,and yes it helps there also!
After being on the road for 35 years,and being at home for a while now I realized the damage my eating habits,and the stress of trucking did to my health. Stress raises a hormone called cortisol which does a multitude of bad things to our body. Age itself lowers Testosterone ,and Human Growth Hormone in men,but I am happy to say that exercise,and weight lifting while not the fountain of youth can help to slow the process somewhat.
Exercise,Exercise,Exercise my friend you are on the right track. I started back lifting weights bench pressing 135 pounds for sets,and last night was a"light day" ,and I did sets with 325 pounds. Starting in walking with my wife,and almost died in the 1.8 miles she walks. Now 5 miles is no big deal,and I do 10-40 yard sprints back to back the way basketball players do suicide drills,and my grand kids can't keep up ,and" Pappy is 56.
I'm not sure I ever want to go back trucking again after seeing where I was ,and where I am now. Sure I miss the travel,but sure don't miss being out of shape!
High blood pressure plain old sucks . Took my first football physical in 9TH grade in high school. Doctor asked me if my BP was normally High. What does a kid know it was the first time I think I ever heard the term "High Blood Pressure". To look at me you would never guess I weigh 320 pounds # 6' . Its kind of a Bill Kazamaier look.
I am convinced High BP go's with certain body types. I always carried very little fat,but I could never ever float in swimming class in HS except at the bottom of the pool. The muscle mass was too dense,and heavy to float ,but the fat kids could float,and had normal BP. Any of this sound familiar? If I go back on the road I would join a Gold's Gym ,because they are everywhere,and your home gym can give you a monthly pass to use in any Gold's Gym Good luck,and God Bless my friend!

Yeah. I've been that way most my life. I'm a very stout 6' even when I dieted down to 180 and had very little if any body fat.
I walked 3mi yesterday at a flying J, feels great after you start sweating and get into rhythm. I did eat a smoked beef sandwich from I70x58 TA in Missouri. But I did only get the half pound, not the full pound. Which I would've before.
Ate about 1400 calories yesterday even with the sandwich.
Just walked for 40 minutes today at a Pilot and am about to take a Shower. Ate about 800 cal today so far. Am going to be at my uncles with no cell signal when I'm home. Going to do some work on my truck. As wellSheepDog and CadetTrucker Thank this. -
My brother is skinny, but has always had BP issues. He had a mild heart attack the middle of last year. They told him to watch the fat in everything he eats, and to eat no more than 20 grams of fat in any one meal. Daily total should only be 60 grams for men, 40 grams for women.
If your drinking pop, especially anything caffeinated, reduce or cut it out, and see what happens with your BP. Give it a few days and take it again, I think you will see that top number come down.

Alright, been back on the road since Monday, but finally had a chance to post. I passed my physical on Friday, so I'm good there. While at home, walked three times at a local park (each lap around the park was 0.65mi (by car), and did between three and four laps each day. Also walked twice at the high school track (6 laps on the outside lane one day, 7 on the inside lane another). Yesterday, I walked for 35min at a Pilot, today I walked 30min at a Petro. Only ate roughly 1300 calories yesterday and about 1200 today.
I can definitely tell I've lost weight. Have a weird schedule coming up where I'll be driving during the late evening into morning (hate doing that), so, I'll probably walk at the end of my shift, who knows. Anyways, didn't have a scale today.
But, making progress. Will try to weigh myself on tomorrow or the 1st so I know where I am headed into April. Hope to lose 20 pounds by May 1st.CadetTrucker and SheepDog Thank this. -
Still doing good, ate about 1600 calories yesterday. Walked for 35 minutes yesterday. Ate around 1100 calories so far today. Haven't walked yet. Will after the VCU-Butler game I'm watching.

Quickly lower your blood pressure by fasting! I know this from first hand experience because I have fasted to lower my blood pressure and it worked.
I just like you needed to renew my medical card but when I went to the clinic my blood pressure was through the ROOF! It was so high they wanted me to go to the hospital and wouldn't let me leave to office until I signed some form. At that time I was about 340lbs, 6'4 and 23yrs old. YES 23 YEARS OLD.
To make a long story short I started to fast and got my renewed medical card a days later. YES DAYS. Do a search online, studies have shown you can drop your systolic by as much 40 and diastolic by as mush 25.
I continued to fast on and off for about 3 months and lost 130lbs! Fasting is the easiest thing you can do and feels great and saves you money on food instead of spending money on need.

I'm down to 347 as of yesterday night. So, 12 pounds down. Didn't do well on my diet today, though. Already ate about 1500 calories. Walked for 40 minutes yesterday. Also did a ton of work out in the hot sun and probably sweated out a pound or two. I hadn't eaten last night when I weighed, either.
I can definitely tell I've lost weight. Clothes are fitting much better. Still a ways to go, but am slowly getting there.CadetTrucker Thanks this. -

The same outfit has the truckers diet but its an org instead of a com. This is a fast safe way to lose wt and get a jump start to a healthy life.
