Okay, still chugging along. Slipped a bit a few times. Had a steak and eggs a few days ago and had chinese food last night. Was at 328 at one scale, 331 at another, so don't know what to believe. Been slow going since coming back from my vacation. I've lost about 30 pounds since I started (roughly 10lb/mo).

Still have a goal of 290 by Thanksgiving which should be doable. Can't walk today (horrible rainstorm here in the upper plains). But, will hopefully walk an hour tomorrow to make up for it.

Since my vacation, only missed about 2 or 3 days of walking.

It was easier at home instead of out on the road. Generally, low calorie, low sodium diet. Basic day was:

1 Banana, 1 Apple, 1/2 chicken breast, 2 pieces of multigrain braid, lettuce (on sandwich), lettuce with very little low-cal ranch dressing, grapes, carrots, raisins, one can pepsi a day (wasn't off it yet), as much water as I wanted. Ended up working out to about 1,000 calories a day and roughly 800-1,000mg sodium a day.

Lost 100 pounds in just about six months, dropped BP significantly.

So far on my current diet:

1.5 servings Multigrain Cherrios (135 cal)
    1 banana (100 cal~)
1 apple or orange (80-100 cal)
    1 granola bar (120-140 cal)
    1 sandwich thin (100 cal)
1 slice reduced cheese (50 cal)
2-3 servicings sliced chicken (100-150 cal)
    2-3 servings broccolli (70-105 cal)
2-3 servings baby carrots (70-105 cal)
1 glass skim milk (100-150 cal)

Ends up being about 1200-1500 calories a day. I do cheat on it every so often. The trick is to not bore yourself with the diet or you will fall off. So, I allow myself to have 'off days'. Maybe some chicken wings, chinese food, a burger, etc. But, just don't overdo it when I do take a free pass. Never more than 2,500-3000 calories in those days.

Your body uses (depending on % of fat to muscle) about 10-12 calories per pound of body weight (not including additional exercise, activity than minimal 'living'). The bigger you are the lesser the number becomes as fat takes the least amount of calories to survive compared to muscles, bones, organs, etc.

So, 350 pounds meant 3,500 calories a day just to maintain your weight in normal activity state. One pound of fat is 3,500 calories. So, if I could eat 1,500-1,750, every two days I lose one pound. Right now, I'm on a roughly every two days I lose one pound rate. That's because I purposefully let myself cheat on it from time to time.

I feel dieting is relatively easy (deciding to walk and get sweaty is the hard part). it's just I like to eat and therefore, here I am.

Keep it up, Remember drink lots of water. It will help you feel full between meals and if you don't drink enough your body will store it adding weight. A good rule when trying to loose weight is divide your weight in half and that how many ounces of water you should consume throughout the day.

I was 360lbs a while back and now I'm down to 270lbs (Linebacker built 6'1"). Lucky for my my BP was 139/89 at my worst DOT physical. Yesterday I tested at 130/76. Not perfect but I'm getting there.

My problem is currently I work security at a resort and I have full access to a commercial kitchen and its hard not to take the freebies. I'm working to get back in a truck now as I'm good when I buy for myself. So I can relate to you when your home.

I like riding a bike myself. You can cover more ground and see more. Makes the exercise funner I think.

I've thought about getting a bike to strap to my catwalk to go for rides instead of walking. I do agree that I could see a lot more and therefore enjoy the time better.

Yesterday, I weighed in at 327, so I'm taking that 331 as an anomaly. Ate a little bit more than usual today, so kicking myself for that. Oh well. Still plugging along like always.

Congrats on your weight loss. Using the same scale every time you weigh in keeps things more accurate, at least in the amount of weight loss. When you reach a plateau (and I'm not saying you have) up the exercise AND THE CALORIES. 1. I don't think you are eating enough. 2. You are a testosterone monkey. 10lb/month is a very good amount. It didn't all go on in one day, it isn't coming off in one day either.

You should look into varying your routine a bit (difficult, I know). But look into something like the Couch to 5k program. I'm not saying follow it, but the interval training will really help your metabolism kick start. Building more muscle will help you burn more fat as well. If you can start a strength training routine (and that doesn't just mean pushing weights), you should find that the weight loss, and your health, will improve.

I'm leery of any "lose weight fast" program for a couple of reasons. 1. It isn't healthy to drop weight that quickly, and 2. your mind doesn't have the opportunity to shift its thinking. It's a lifestyle change you are looking for, after all. Eating healthier and coming to terms with the psychological changes that result from becoming a more fit person take time.

Before anyone jumps me. I'm where Slyfox is. Not in a truck, but definitely overweight. I don't have some of the medical issues he does, but I do have others. I am slowly taking back my life. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other. When I turn 40 next year, I hope to be at some semblance of a goal weight. Another thing. Don't marry yourself to a magic number. "When I hit xxx lbs, I'm done dieting." It's not a diet, it's a new way of eating. One that can be even MORE enjoyable and satisfying as that triple cheeseburger, especially since eating healthier foods GIVES you energy, instead of sapping it, like the aforementioned burger. That being said, give yourself permission to have a treat once a week or every two weeks. Denial only leads to binging. And we have had quite enough of that!

I wish you joy and luck in your journey to finding the leaner, fitter you! Whoever you may be.

sly you should try eating the original quaker oats oatmeal every morning with some blueberries mixed in. not the little packets of oatmeal with all the sugar that most people get. get the big ole thing of straight oats. also a couple really good foods to maybe slip into your diet would be RAW ALMONDS.. can get those at walmart.. they are great to snack on.. read some info on them on google and you'll see. just eat about 15 of them when you do choose to snack, dont overdue it. also some fat free cottage cheese is something good to eat late at night. something else great for you is plain non fat GREEK yogurt and mix in some fresh pineapple.. mmmm mmmm !

I disagree with many on this thread. When you're seriously overweight, there is no reason you can't lose 5lbs or more a week. It's all in whether you want to be serious about it or not.

absolutely true ^^, your either serious but still spoil yourself which makes all of it not worth your time.. especially because a big meal and a bunch of other unhealthy stuff three times a week is still to much if your already overweight.. maybe not for a ectomorph person.. but if your overweight and really want to lose weight you need to stick to only water and ONLY healthy choices and if you want a big meal from a truckstop make it once a week. its either good greasy tasting food to satisfy your cravings which are ONLY cravings and you should me able to master beating them. or its healthy foods only and truly sticking to the right foods and then you will start to drop drastically.
