I don't find the diet restrictive in any way, but, each to their own. The beans\legumes are added to keep the caloric count up with more protein and fiber. The fruit is dropped as they're simply sugars. And the cheat day is more of a necessity, than it is an allowance, as it helps in thyroid health, amongst other things.

But, as I said earlier, to each their own.

A 'diet' is just that - a short term approach to a long term problem. Even the word diet means that when you reach 'goal' you can get off the diet and go back to what you were doing before. So don't 'diet' - change your style of eating. Make 'better' choices and use smaller amounts. Eat to where you are not 'hungry' anymore, but not 'full/stuffed'. Look at food as fuel. When you are fueling your rig, you wouldn't go to the full mark and keep going, you would stop. Why waste the fuel. That is what you do when you 'over eat'; but instead of the fuel running out on the ground, its stored around the body as a 'reserve'. Also eat SLOWLY - letting your body tell you when its not hungry anymore. All the little tricks really do help - using a smaller plate/bowl so that the portions look bigger - actually MEASURE out your serving because your eyes/mind are not good judges - CHEW until the food is the texture of apple sauce - don't drink any liquids once that first bite of food is put in your mouth and don't have any for at least 30 minutes after eating - concentrate first on the protein on your plate, then the veggies and IF you still are 'hungry' then have a bite or two of the starch - go sugarfree and soda free (why drink your calories?).

These are just some helpful things I learned while loosing weight - however to learn them I had to become surgically altered. (gastric bypass) The doc only altered my anatomy though - not my head - so all the 'coping' I did with eating I had/have to work on (and I still am).

Hi Sly Fox. I just wanted to say congratulations on having the foresight to want to change. A few suggestions: Commit every day to begin anew. There will be obstacles, but don't sweat the small stuff. Walking is, indeed, an excellent tool; and it's free. Lastly, water, water, and more water. Remember, this is not only about maintaing employment, it's about being a healthier you. So, good luck and God bless.

This has always been a subject I enjoyed reading about and speaking about.
I have learned that there are two subjects that need changed in this country, that I believe will help people change their mindsets. 1)Weight Loss - to phocus on Weight Loss is looking at it all wrong, IMO. I like to use the term; Fat Loss. We really don't WANT to loose weight so much as FAT. So I say, lets phocus on FAT LOSS and not Weight Loss. 2)Diet - I truely believe that the world has got this one wrong as well. Diet = the food that a person or animal usually consumes. We ALL have to consume food or we will die! So, I like to leave out the word Diet in my life and simply Alter my Food intake to adjust for a specific amount of callories.

I am in the TN ARNG and I am over weight by their standards, 200lbs. I need to be at 184lbs. I CAN do this and have done it before. In fact; while I was stationed in Iraq during 2004-2005 I lost 35lbs in 3.5 months. I had come home for my two week leave and hated the way I looked. I felt terriable for being away from my family for so long and feeling like I had not done anything to warrent my time away..weird I know..LOL So, I got on a strict plan to take in only 1200 to 1500 calories per day. I also got on a strict workout regiment. I ran around noon each day and than strengh strained my upper body around 20:00 the same day. Did this for 6 days than 3 days off.

Of course that was many moons ago and I started driving truck in 2008... So, this thread is awesome and I have looked into the HCG thing and have involved my wife as well..

SlyFox,,,keep it up, "you can do it"...LOL

If you look at the word DIET on http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/diet the first 2 definitions as a noun do not refer to an altering of your eating for only a certain amount of time. It should always be used as a noun, and never a verb, but that's just my opinion. I believe that most misuse this word, and that an education of what a proper diet is, would go far in helping people to understand what they should be eating.

The best way for me to look at it is fairly simple. Food is a drug. You wouldn't (or most of us wouldn't) go on a pill binge in your medicine cabinet, so as it is with food. If you look a food as a tool to help fuel the body and help keep the body healthy you will quickly begin to change the way you use food.

Just to be completely clear, I am in the same situation ... I am overweight and trying to get back into trucking. I haven't tried to get my medical recently, but I am fairly certain that my uncontrolled Type II Diabetes and HBP would definitely disqualify me if I were to take it this morning. But then it's a process.

Having read the entirety of this thread I have to agree with what people are telling you. It is imperitive that you get to a doctor and have your HBP dealt with. Both numbers are telling and it's simply not enough to monitor your numbers. Medication for you is a necessity IMO. I am not a doc, but there are many medico's in my family and they would tell you the same thing. All it would take for you is the right circumstances and you could have something worse than a heart attack ... complete vascular failure ... same thing that John Ritter died from. His manifested in the spontaneous bisecting of his aorta. There is no chance of coming back from that.

But I definitely support your effort. Keep at it, but see a doc for the HBP. And keep us updated on your efforts. As a community, supporting each other, we can help each other along and almost guarantee success.

Too many carbohydrates are making people fat and sick, it is as simple as that.

If you cut down your carbs to around 100-150 grams a day and boost your protein and fat intake to make up for the lost calories from the carbs, you will lose weight without exercising and you will not feel hungry, dietary fat and protein makes you feel full for a long time.

You won't become skinny as a stick or turn into some body builder on a low carb diet but you will not be obese if you stick to keeping your carbs low. Also, your diabetes symptoms should improve drastically along with your blood pressure....over several months, it is not instantaneous.

Just passing that along, take it or leave it. Your choice.

Little by little, I'm making progress. Saw 321 on a scale, but it's a little misleading as it was right after I was done walking 2.4 miles. Sweated out quite a bit. Still, I'm at 323 or so. At least 36 since I started. Slower progress than anticipated, but still working at it.

To add a note, I've slacked off a bit. I was home again, which seems to be the biggest problem. I'm pretty good out on the road, but when I'm home and can driver wherever I want to get something to eat, or my wife can make anything for me,... I'm compromised. And I did promise myself ribs for the fourth. But, as long as I see progress, I'm content.
