Hi everyone. Recently got free kaufman EZ 4 from a friend. I worked before OTR and for local companies in other fields. Now I wanted to buy either Ford or Ram and start hauling cars to close states (max 400-500miles) that I can be at home everyday or maximum a day away from home, as I am a newly married. I reside in Mass. Planning on taking trips either in Mass or to surrounding states for above mentioned reason. I know overall trucking industry doesn’t do well and car hauling is tough. So my question here is:
1. Will I be able to find loads everyday for close distances that I can return home?
2. How much potentially (approximately) I can make with current industry…
3. Or should I stay away?
Any response appreciated
Thanks!

Doable but rates are in the tank. There is a learning curve. Proceed with caution. Personally , I would pass until environment changes. Good luck !!

OMG and they just keep on coming. Where is this trend coming from? Ive never seen so many people some how find their way into this sector of the industry.
And would you like to know what MY PROBLEM is about it? Let me expound upon it. As a “car hauler” rolling a 9 car stinger that I paid over $200k for Im slightly insulted when I read “I got a trailer for free so Im going to buy a pickup truck and become a car hauler, how much can I make?” crap.
Yes I admit Im pretty much a jerk about it all. It’s an insult to anyone who actually makes their career from hauling cars. Someone who has paid their dues with their own hard earned money. Someone that has made the mistakes and pushed through the adversity. Someone that has built a business out of years YEARS of hard work and quality service to their customers. Someone that deals with all the regulatory BS year over year over year. And I could go on and on. Then you come in here talking about your free trailer and being home every night and asking how much can you make?
Every one of you Johnny Come Lately’s always ask that question. How much can ai make? And I or anyone else on this forum with DECADES of experience will tell you it ain’t about what you make, it’s about what you keep. If you do not know your operating costs and what YOU personally need to pay your bills, what you make will never be enough.
Rant Completed!
