If you are considering a career as a truck driver, or if you are ALREADY one of the newbies on the road or even if you spend a lot of time traveling by car, you should consider a small fridge to keep fresh food available when you want it. Been a truck driver myself, I can tell you first hand that having a small fridge available in the truck gives you so much more flexibility in what you have at your disposal to prepare to eat.

By having a small fridge in the truck you can eat previously prepared food, that you simply heat back up in a microwave. You can add fresh ingredients to canned or packaged food to boost the nutritional value, you don't have to rely on fast food or truck stop food which will save you a lot of money as everything in truck stops is exponentially more expensive than if you can shop in a grocery store.

When it comes to a small fridge for your truck, car or RV you have several options.

You could go the 12 volt cooler route. There are quite a variety each with their pros and cons. Some you can even stand up so they look like a mini refrigerator. Check out some of them:

    12V 48-Can Voyager Cooler

    Koolatron 33 qt. Kargo Kooler

Coleman PowerChill Thermoelectric Cooler with Power Supply (40-Quart)

The 12 volt mini refrigerator is easy to use in a truck as most come with the proper cigarette plug adapter standard with the product. The cooler can be stood up on the end to look and function like a small fridge. Most even come with a tray to separate the sections and give you more usable space. This small fridge can be expected to keep your items in the neighborhood of 40 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature - some can also be reversed to use a heater.

The biggest draw back to using a 12 volt cooler as a small fridge is that there is no freezer space available.

If you are trucking, camping, RVing or just traveling around, this small fridge option is an excellent one.

For freezer capacity you might be more interested in installing an actual mini refrigerator. These two options both come with actual freezer compartments.

Danby DCR326BSL 3.1-Cu.Ft. Dual Door Compact Fridge with Freezer, Black/Stainless
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000N29VBE...justjillin/small-fridge-options-for-truckers/

These two mini refrigerators are both AC/DC options which makes them perfect alternatives for installation in trucks and RV's. Investing in a good capacity mini fridge will save you over the long run as it allows you so many more food preparation options.

I hope this tread helped you guys a little bit. Take care and drive safely.

I'm using the small black and Decker dorm fridge that Walmart sells for 79.95. Has a small freezer compartment and is a bonafide compressor run fridge. It's 120 volt and I have it plugged into the factory inverter in my truck. Uses 150 watts continuous and peaks at about 350 watts when it first kicks on. Fits perfectly where the factory Volvo fridge went.

I'm gonna take a look on that one too. Seems to be cheap compared to others.

I'm thinking of doing a 8 - 10 cf fridge because they are separate freezers and much more fridge space. They are around 300 and they sell at walmart .com free shipping to store and free return to store if it doesn't fit or work out somehow. ID have to remove the cabinet that currently sits below my factory fridge though to make it fit. Really wish I had a custom sleeper.....

Very nice. Not as heavy as I thought it would be.
