My Samsung rugby flip phone died. Need to get a new phone. I am changing careers and plan to drive for Maverick Trucking based in Little Rock. Would it be a good idea to upgrade to a smart phone? Or would another flip phone be good enough. Just wanted to find out if a lot of drivers have smart phones and if the extra cost is worth it. Thanks

I would buy a verizon ipad and a prepaid dumb phone.

Save lots of money over 2 years of contracts.

Plus the ipad is way more usefull than a smart phone.

Get a dumb phone....the more your dispatcher finds out you can do. The more of a pain they will become.

Projump unless you are a O/O leasing with Maverick get another flip phone. Granted smartphones are usefull, but IMO unless you need to get online everyday its not worth the extra cost. Some people regardless of career want to get the latest and greatest in tech and have no real need for it.

Thanks for the replies. It's 3 to 0 in favor of another flip (dumb) phone which is fine with me. I would like to have a laptop in the truck. Are most truck stops wi-fi equiped. What do most of you do for internet service while away from home. Do most drivers have a personal computer of some sort (laptop, tablet, notebook etc)?

I've got an ASUS laptop and a Verizon.....what the heck to you call it....the Mobile Hot Spot thingy (can you tell I'm a techy?). Works well enough for me, though the MHS battery life is pretty feeble, so I keep it plugged in to my laptop when I'm using it.

A phone should never be smarter than the user. Therefore, I should not ever own a cell phone, and I'm questioning whether or not I'm qualified for the house phone......

    ....yeah....but I spelled "techie" wrong!!

I'm going to bed. If I can figure out how to shut down my computer (which, by the way, the other day would not shut down and I had to call my wife for help!)

    Please don't tell my kids.
