We as O/O must tightened our belts again as the prices go up. But many it seems still pride themselves in being a Super Trucker. They idle their trucks, even in the mildest of weather; they speed by with no regard to speed limits, weather conditions, construction, road hazards, or the wasting of fuel. We all know company drivers don't generally care about anything but how many miles they run in a week. But as O/O, everything matters.
With our Cummins, we can average 7+ mpg; But, its only because we have invested in our truck to perform better. The biggest investment that most are scared of is the (ThermKing) APU. But, I see guys who can't even invest in batteries or air governors. (better to have that extra crome?) I don't know about the rest of you, But when we fiqure mileage after fueling and we see 7.5-8 mpg, We know we made the right choices. If you can invest in insulation for your home, why not try putting some in your truck?? And why not pop in the screens and let your truck (and the rest of us) sleep peacefully??

Any smart O/O knows that Idling the truck in mild weather just eats fuel. Hubby doesn't idle his truck unless the temp is well below freezing, he has a heated blanket to keep him warm. We currently can't afford an APU on the truck, but are looking into it. Unfortunately the cost of fuel makes that goal further off than we originally thought.

I know other O/O's in the same position. Each O/O's position financially is different, some can afford to idle, if the equipment is paid off. Some may need to idle, due to the need for rest.

Each O/O has his own situation to deal with, be it a truck payment, trailer payment or both, let alone the insurance and taxes.

I'm glad that you are able to afford these things, but some O/O's are doing their best just to keep their heads above water here. Including my husband.
