It is not why would they,,, they have the right..
They asked for them, you were unable to print them. Did you offer to E-Mail to them and have them print it out?

4 of them are battery powered.
If the enforcement official requests printed copies of the RODS, the driver must be given an opportunity to print the current and prior seven days RODS (if required on those days) at the time of inspection.

I'm not disputing the legality of it. I'm just pointing out how asinine it is, to the degree that they have to go out of their way to make this an issue. Yes, I offered to email them. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the officer printed out blank logs for me so a printer or use of their paper wasn't an issue. He didn't run my information through the ol telegraph line or use pony express so they had internet access. I also mentioned in an earlier post that ELDs have the option to simply show the officer the screen if electronic fails, so why don't I?
Here's my thing, nothing is gained or lost by printing my logs. I don't mysteriously lose hours or suddenly appear in a different state when I transcribe to paper. And where does the information on the printed logs come from? My phone. If they accept the paper copy, they have to accept my phone because that's where it came from. That's why I'm so po'd about this whole thing. They're using a law to say they'll only accept a copy and not the original. There's an infinite number of potential alternate universes and realities and you won't find a single one where that makes any sense. -
It was the Enforcement Officer's call. They had the right.

Eld's have different rules then rods.
My logs are on laptop with digital signature. and still printed every day. I don't want the hassle.
Unlike all of those who wish to use their cell phone and don't think they need to have a printer.
I have yet to see anyone on this forum speak out and say they use a printer with their phone for logs. -
I'm interested in where to get this $25 printer. Not for logs but for load conformation sheets.

I'm not disputing the legality, I'm just saying its stupid.
Yes, clearly I'm the idiot for being baffled by an officer insisting on the finest in 1977 technology all the way at the end of 2016. I never said he was wrong, just that it was an almost inconceivable reach and certainly nothing to do with safety. Its not something I worried about much because its never come up.
Here's another one for you. The same day I got put OOS in NY, my brother in law got a citation in PA for not crossing the safety chains on his gooseneck trailer. Yes, not crossing them. Ever heard of that one? -
Goodwill. $50 says it doesn't work though

Walmart has $25 printers, occasionally. And sometimes you can buy a best buy floor model for open box price.
And i'm sure one can find some discontinued models on the internet.not4hire Thanks this.
