This sounds to difficult to do! I'm not sure if I would open this can of worms!

Would not be too easy. You'd need the full column from a smart wheel truck, as there are one or two extra wires running through. Then you would have to figure out how to integrate it into the current system. It's a multiplexed system where there is an encoder/decoder at each end and the signal travels through minimal wiring.

I have a '97 W900 with the smart wheel and it controls the engine brakes, clearance lamp system interrupt, and the cruise controls.

With today's computerized systems, you could easily burn out a module even trying to test where things can be plugged in.

That, I don't know. I found out about how the smart wheel system works by accident after I got my truck. They would have to use such a system for the steering wheel as running multiple connections through a multiple contact and wiper system would introduce too many problems.

    That why the multiplex system.

It would be easy in a 2011 or newer W-9 because all of them are wired for it (even if you didnt get the wheel). It would probably be a couple days of chasing wires but not impossible. If your truck did not have an option for it, you do not want to try it.

Not to highjack the thread but do they make a aftermarket smart wheel adapter? I have a 97 w9 and it has the big wheel it. Would like to switch to something a bit smaller....
