Thou have an exhaust leak some place you NEED to get that fixed asap it could kill you
Oldironfan and Johny41 Thank this. -
LOL. Dude you will die from carbon monoxide poisoning from that exhaust. Your truck is dangerous until you get that fixed.
Johny41 Thanks this. -
19 years old truck is your problem, could be manifold, exhaust; i wouldn't sleep in it, or until you get fixed I would stop in first Home Depot buy a smoke/CO/CO2 detector to wake you up still alive.( i have 2 all the time in my truck, i had it going off twice in last 10 years while sleeping, in this trucks with choked exhaust you never know) Few years ago i was in San Antonio, Texas, Love's TS, I-35, exit 144, when they pulled out a team/couple dead from a sleeper with similar problems.

Could be an exhaust leak. Could also be blow by from the blow by tube. Keep the heater on recirculate and see if that keeps it out. But either way it needs fixed. Dangerous situation.
SAR Thanks this. -
Since can’t see carbon monoxide, I doubt it can hurt you like people say.. no biggie.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
I was having a hard to find exhaust leak doing the same thing. Took me a few days to find it. 4" long Rubber hose on 2" metal tubing from egr cooler to inner cool. (Volvo engine) It was cracked on the back side.
I aslo put a co2 senor(from the house) with read out in cab. co2 level never set the alarm off but there was a reading. -
CK your flex pipe and every clamp for EX. leaks that make black marks on any of them fix all leaks you find with new parts!

I had the same issue with a 2012 vnl 670 w/isx. Turned out to be a cracked exhaust manifold(was fixed, it got better), then found a bad band clamp directly behind turbo. There was no indication that the clamp was leaking, could not feel exhaust leaking, did not see soot. Replace clamp and that fixed it.
