As I travel SB I77 increasingly the number of big trucks "SMOKIN" down the 7 1/2 mile decent is becoming alarming.....& DANGEROUS!

Most are company wagons....ignoring people, no cb's.....or so scared they dare don't answer for fear of releasing one hand from the wheel.

Drop a gear, flip the Jake switch and enjoy the view & the ride. Give the good folks in the Commonwealth a break on the additional pollution coming from both your tandems....and the seat of your pants!

That stretch is very dangerous. It can fog up in an instant. Lots of lives are lost on that mountain.

With those cutback trucks they always have to run against the governor. When they hit the down side of the hill at 62 mph it can get away on them.

I just went down that hill the other day and its true there is way too many trucks unsafely blasting down that hill. I went down it with 43k in the box at 58-60mph split back a gear let the Jake go tap the brakes once in awhile an I got to the bottom safely brakes were fine. I did have a couple trucks blow my doors off and as they pasted all you could smell was burnt brakes. Those guys need some more training and common sense. They probably don't even realize what they're smelling as there burning away their brakes

The jakes or engine brakes on some of these trucks are pretty crappy, and wouldn't hold a runaway radio flyer wagon, let alone a rig.

Some of these guys are probably not being taught the proper way to deal with mountains either. With three month wonders as trainers, it's no real surprise that you see that happening more often.

They can get away with it so long as there is not an unexpected backup near the bottom due to an accident 2 minutes ahead of them ... then it will turn ugly ... and if they are ever allowed to drive again or care to drive again, they won't do that anymore.

I never understand flying down a grade...over my head I guess.

I like Fancy Gap, really nice area down there, would love to do some camping around those parts.

On a clear day, it is one of the best views around.

But I have also often wondered about what would happen to some of these drivers if the unthinkable occurred; that is, a wreck at or near the bottom that took both lanes.

Heck, I'm surprised there aren't more trucks that go over that off-ramp to the Love's at the bottom of the hill. Pretty tight for having just gone down that grade!
