Truckers mentality is wrong about this one... when you specifically ask to avoid getting sent into a winter storm and they still send you there you should receive layover pay for being stuck but still responsible for load (Reeder temp, security and fuel and communication of safe eta)...the customers should get upcharged knowing a driver will be sitting due to weather...your unpaid on the job I don't agree with this policy... was stuck in weeds ca 2 days and now going on day 3 at on-board or cabbage eb chain requirements and was closed yesterday for part of day... sending a peoplenet message isn't enough you have to reject the load but in principle they should pay layover cause your on the job the customers needs that freight moved through the storm which prevents the driver from making money driving, so Pay layover... this idea of being on the job unpaid doesn't sit well with me...hope you get a new AM that butt head sounds like he only belongs on vintage TV reruns

That's what I was thinking. Just being sent into a winter storm, does not automatically mean you will be shut down for days, or delayed. If you are, then you should get pay for it.

Ops told me that they have been trying to route trucks around as much of the snowstorms as They possibly could… as unpredictable as a system is it’s not always workable…im sure that if it came depending on the person whatnot someone would do something.

You mean to tell me we have to drive in snow? I was told strictly sunshine and 80 degree temps was all I had to deal with. A3C82DCC-4337-4DD7-88E9-20F487EDCDAD.jpeg

Last OTR company I drove for, I asked to reroute around a New Mexico snowstorm that was promising 12-18 inches across I-40 from Albuquerque to Tucumcari. I was granted permission and ran down from OKC to Wichita Falls to Midland and ran I-20 to I-10 through El Paso to get to LA. Luckily the company and dispatch considered the thought process of a driver to get the freight there on-time (albeit out of route) vs getting stranded somewhere in the middle of the New Mexico desert.
