I've repaired cross links before. But only if the rest of the set are looking good. Usually they are pretty much all worn out then they get tossed in a bucket.

Exactly right. A good chain tool and a couple of boxes of chain parts will pay for themselves pretty fast. Plus, if you build your own, you get them set up the way you want them.

I go through at least 4 or 5 sets a year running over Donner because stupid ####ing CalTrans make you run chains on wet pavement. I don't have a choice to sit and wait my contract specifies that I have to get there. Yeah that was my choice. So running over and back 3 to 5 times a week I eat chains like candy.
