    I've repaired cross links before. But only if the rest of the set are looking good. Usually they are pretty much all worn out then they get tossed in a bucket.

    Exactly right. A good chain tool and a couple of boxes of chain parts will pay for themselves pretty fast. Plus, if you build your own, you get them set up the way you want them.
