Kenworths were considered the Caddies of the trucking world. Petes were the less respected Lincolns. Freightliner and International were your Ford/Chevy, and Volvos are the piece of crud foreign job.

The tables have turned in recent years. Nowadays the Volvos are considered the Cadillacs of the trucking world,Petes & KWhoppers are more like the Fords/Chevys-raiding the same parts bins at PACCAR,Freightliner/Western Star the same at DTNA. Internationals(the newer ones anyway)well-if the Mexican companies would rather run 20+ year old International cabovers than use brand new LTs or ProStars that should tell you everything you need to know about that brand!;)

The plows were plowing the hammer shoulder going East with a Northeast wind, pushing it, so it would blow across the road blinding anyone driving along side or behind. Worse, it wasn't consistent, in patches. That driver passed me going fast on 80, he probably was going too fast passing, when that plow threw a blinding screen of snow on him, resulting in the accident. Another plow did it to me, trying to pass, but I was going slow enough to fall back. That's why they shut down 80 last night, to give road crews a safe opportunity to do their job. Hope that plow driver lived, it didn't look good.

I love how some of you guys always jump the worst conclusion immediately. Let's see, over a million trucks on the road in the U.S. Add to that this truck rolling 1. in the winter (which most of us have to) 2. on I80 in Wyoming (which lots of us have to) 3. in seriously bad weather (which some of us have to) but nooooooooo, because he had a wreck he's an outlaw, speedy super trucker who doesn't know what he's doing.

Accidents happen. Keep at it long enough and you're the super trucker who made a bad decision.....or mistake.....once. Looks like the company does really well but one guy makes a mistake and gets crucified on here.

Snow plows are rolling road blocks. They blind everyone with lights and powder, and they turn the roads into an ice skating rink. They're a f'n MENACE. Far safer to just buck snow.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but that's my two cents.

What did you think was going to happen? The truck driver hit a snowplow and possibly put the plow driver in the hospital-all because the truck driver was DRIVING TOO FAST FOR THE CONDITIONS-it doesn’t take rocket science to figure it out!!! The weather was forecasted to be bad along I-80 for a few days before the weather even hit(at least 3 DAYS IN ADVANCE).
This is why in weather like this you either slow it down or shut it down-no load is worth ANYONE’S LIFE!

I agree, and they do weird things. They slow down and stop in the middle of the road, lots of times turning around. Most of us would be wise to remember that they aren't other drivers, they are equipment operators doing work on the road, the fact that their machine is also a truck is secondary. In other words, the wise driving maneuvers WE abide by all the time are not their primary thought most of the time.

We don't know how bad conditions were in the wreck above, snow plow could've been sitting still in the hammer lane, but of course the driver now goes down in history as an idiot supertrucker.

I was in Rawlins the day the accident occurred. I was shutdown there for a day and a half(company told me to park it). The weather at that time was blowing snow and crosswinds in excess of 60 mph! Friday my company said I could drive again and it was still snowing and WYDOT plows were still working. And they way they were plowing on I-80 left a lot to be desired(in some spots the hammer lane didn’t look like it was plowed at all so if someone tried to pass you it kicked up a lot of snow to a point where visibility could be reduced to ZERO). Visibility varied between 1/4 to 1/2 a mile between Rawlins and Elk Mountain. The only time it didn’t snow and the road was clear was east of Elk Mountain and near Laramie. When I got near Cheyenne it started snowing again and the company told me I was shutdown again-this time in Sidney,Nebraska, where I’ve been for almost 48 hours now.
Mind you,I’m almost fully loaded (with full tanks on the tractor, reefer and a full DEF tank) but make no mistake if the weather conditions warrant it I’m shutting down-even then I still get paid!

Also,I’m not the one who gets to explain to Wyoming Highway Patrol or my company how I got into an accident with a WYDOT snow plow!o_O
