Buying a house as a trucker..
You need to have 2 years same pay.. for example: cpm can vary but needs to be cpm if you get paid cpm 1 year then goto an hourly job, you will need 2 Yeats driving hourly for the underwriters to approve you.
Per diem is money you don't pay taxes on, which is great but can hurt you when trying to buy a house because the mortgage lenders says, if you don't pay taxes on it, it's not income.. so you made 55k and 20k of that was per diem.. then you can only qualify for a house based on 35k yearly income.. they use the average of the two yrs for the amount. Also if you want to maximize the amount of house you qualify for, the don't write off anything.. I am going to pay taxes on my gross this year to maximize my buying.. I'm only doing this because we lost our house when the market fell out and I started driving and the house was in the wife's name only so I'm trying to buy the house in just my name for a better interest rate.. I knew about the 2 yrs employment but didn't know about claiming all the days out, cellphone, boots, tablets, tv, laptop, cb, gps, and everything else you write off would count against my income until after 2 yrs of driving so this is my 4th yr driving and got all my ducks in a row now.. good luck..
55k for a solo company driver is average for otr. 8 would say 800 a week for local..

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

You need to stop smoking crack, when someone misunderstands what you post and asks you a question. That is not an attack. @average joe

Since this thread has several people posting a truckers average salary being $40,000, and someone says specialized haulers (that includes tanker drivers) should make more. Anyone with an inch of logic can understand how somebody can misunderstand what a poster is trying to say. You never stated a salary amount therefore it is easy to see someone can miss understand, yet you take my question as a call-out?
